Summer camp is almost here
Our Musical Theatre Summer Program is back! Every year the cast members create an entire production from the ground up, and Summer 2022 will be no different. They learn lines, make costumes and props, help create the set, and perform everything they learned at an end of session performance. Besides prepping for the performance we also learn about other arts such as music, photography, painting, dance, and singing.
Dates- Monday-Friday July 11th-22nd 10:00am-3:00pm
performances- Friday and Saturday July 22nd 7:00pm and 23rd 2:00pm and 7:00pm

Picking a song is the hardest part of an audition, and the audition hasn’t even started yet. So we have included our 3 favorite tips for picking the perfect song. .
Popularity
Try to avoid really well-known songs and completely unknown songs unless the audition asks for it. If you pick a really well-known song eg Defying Gravity by Idina Menzel. The people running the audition would have heard that song so many times before or they may compare how you sing against Idina Menzel, unless you know you can really ace it or put your own twist on the song.
Equally, choosing an unknown song may leave the people running the audition with nothing to compare it to, or spend time wondering who the song is by, or asking colleagues, when then should be listening to you. Choose something in between these two extremes. Something known, but not too obsure.
Pre Audition
Once you have found a few possible songs. Try them out. Sing along to them. Get your friends to listen to you, or record yourself singing them and listen to the recordings. Ask for feedback on your song and your performance. What is good? What can be improved on? Is it good enough to make you stand out in your audition?
Research
Check how long you have for your audition slot. Some auditions only want 16 bars or a verse, chorus and close. If the song you have selected only shows your voice off towards the end of the song, consider coming in from the second verse. Are you using dots (sheet music)? Then clearly mark where you want to come in from. If you are using tracks, then it’s more difficult, but maybe get a friend to edit it for you, or there are many companies out there who will edit tracks to suit professionally. Keep your song as short as possible. The last thing you want is to be cut off before the climax of your song because you’ve run out of time.

We are so excited at the studio, we can’t wait to get back into rehearsals! If you don’t know about STAGE 28 yet let us introduce ourself. STAGE 28 was started to share our love for live theatre and performing arts with the Antelope Valley. We work a little different from the traditional community theater or dance studio. At STAGE 28 all classes culminate in a full musical production at the end of each session, that means we get to perform on stage at least 3 times a year. All students that enroll will be featured in the musicals but it is not just a straight rehearsal process, in every discipline students learn technique, history, performance skills, and have a whole lot of fun!!!
