It's not secret that Carlos is my favorite rooster. He is such a gentle giants and an amazing roo to.his ladies.

The Ladies are finally coming off a hard most and beginning to bloom again. My heart will forever be sold-out to Blue Brahma hens. 🩵👌

Most people won't support you until it's popular to do so.

But you can be proud of your accomplishments regardless. 🌞

Today was a chilly one, so it felt like a great time to make the bantam ladies a little egg casserole. Who doesn't like a little comfort food on a chilly day?

Tomorrow the LF will get the same, but with the left over turkey scraps.

Its been awhile since I have devoted anytime to our chicken page.

As some of you know the past year has been spent battling stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. It was difficult enough just doing our daily chicken chores, let alone finding time to create any content. I have enjoyed following a selective group of breeders, mostly from my personal page, but I hope to give this page some much needed CPR.

Despite the stress of this past year, the birds have remained a joy and source of stress relief. We have downsized several breeds and expanded others. This year the hope is to finally commit the energy to becoming NPIP certified & AI clean, and remain a quality source for healthy chicks and hatching eggs (on a limited basis.)

We are excited about our little flock, and no matter what we enjoy the blessing of their presence.

Its okay for your goals to be different. Leaning into a life that looks a lot more like this, and a lot less like what I see on the doom scrolling algorithms.

Especially if you’re here in the Southern U.S., you’re very likely to have nandina growing on your property. This plant is colorful, hardy, fast-growing, and evergreen, so it is often used as an ornamental plant in the suburbs. I’m no exception: the home where For Fox Sake is based had huge nandina bushes when I first moved in!

And that’s bad news for birds. Nandina berries are loaded with cyanide-based compounds that are extremely toxic to birds. Small fruit-eating birds like cedar waxwings (pictured here) are at the highest risk of dying from eating the bright red berries of the nandina plant.

Please destroy all nandina plants on your land to keep wild birds safe. Consider replacing them with nontoxic fruit-bearing plants like mulberry, holly, blueberry, or crab apple instead.
