The concept of pain has to completely shift when talking about birth! Typically, when we are in pain our brains are telling us that something is wrong with us! In birth, pain is: ✨✨𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥. 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭. 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥.✨✨
This is one of the first topics I discuss with my clients no matter how they’ve chosen to labor! There are so many negative words that society uses to describe labor and delivery which inevitably causes us to be pre-programmed to think about it from a place of fear instead of positivity and empowerment. Let’s work together to find words that work for YOU and reframe your pain expectations!

One of the hardest things I’ve realized in my doula journey is that it is simply not considered a necessity by health insurance companies and plans but a luxury item. So I constantly have to dance between knowing the value of having a doula and fighting for the value$$$ that I need to continue to do this work!
If we take a moment and consider the financial costs of having a baby in todays society and compare it to the research that speaks to what having a doula is doing to cesarean, preterm birth, and postpartum health outcomes, then one would think it should be a NEED!
Have you checked with your insurance carrier to see if they will cover or reimburse your doula support?
