Rosy cheeks, mittens, hats, and smiles all around! In spite of the cold, it was a fantastic turn out for Winterfest at Queen Bee Artisan Market in Lake Geneva today! These two adorable sisters are really proud of their creation!

๐ŸŒฟLet's talk about fertilizing๐ŸŒฟ
It is important that you use a fertilizer specific to your air plants. Why? Because other fertilizers contain urea, which can harm your plants. This can happen because soil microbes convert urea into a form that is absorbed by roots. Since air plants don't have roots, the urea is not broken down and can cause your air plant's leaves to turn brown and die.
Using the proper urea-free fertilizer formulated specifically for air plants helps speed up growth, it also enhances the plants during blooming and encourages offspring growth.
It is recommended to fertilized once a month along with regular waterings.
This fertilizer is available on the Queen Bee website: https://queenbee.ositracker.com/207988/15248

Which one is your favorite?

๐ŸŒฟSome people wonder: Do air plants need sun? The answer is Yes! They do! Itโ€™s important to know the right light "sweet spot" is for your air plants. The short answer is bright, indirect light.
They do like some direct light, but be careful so they do not get sun damaged. It may take a bit of moving your plants around to find the ideal spot, but it is well worth it.๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟTime to dry after a relaxing soak ๐Ÿ›€

Always be sure to let your plants dry out completely before you put them back in their "home" This will help prevent the plants from rotting at the base or developing mold.
Ideally, put your plant face down on some paper towel so that the excess water can run out.

๐ŸŒฟHave you soaked your Tillies lately? In the winter with the furnace running, the air is very dry and your plants may not be getting enough to drink with just a weekly misting. Your plants will enjoy a good "spa" day to get some extra moisture. They will thank you for it.๐Ÿฅฐ

Create this super simple terrarium by yourself. I call this one "Himalayan Zen". I have this available as a kit to make it easy for gift giving. The kit includes the container, white sand, air plant and genuine Himalayan sea salt. The macrame hanger is also available for purchase.

Do you want to add some charm and ambiance to your terrarium? Add some lights!๐Ÿ’ก
This is my first attempt and I am thrilled at the results. I started with about 3 lbs of gravel as the base. Then added some chunky rocks, a hefty branch and some bark to anchor the wire. Next I added preserved forest moss to add some color and to camouflage the wire. Popped in 3 plants and voila! Done!
This Big Boy is being donated as a raffle prize at the food drive for the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank. Check out their page for the event details.

This is something I created and was tempted to keep it myself. But I brought it into the shop and it flew out the door. Air plants are so fun and easy to design with. We have lots to offer on the sales floor. If you like something custom-made, shoot me a message.

Super Excited! I finally ordered an Andreana for myself. I have been wanting one for awhile. She came in a bit flat with my big plant order. But after a nice soak and some trimming she is looking good! (that one ๐Ÿ‘‡ is not my plant) Someday I hope for a flower like the one in the picture below. The color is amazing!

Here is bit more info on this Beauty!

Found growing on cliffs and rocks in Colombia, South America, the Tillandsia Andreana has wispy bright green leaves and a round rosette shape. A rather rare plant, it will grow into quite an impressive clump over time.

Since these guys have wispy leaves like that of the T. fuchsii v gracilis, make sure that they are getting enough water. You might need to mist your T. andreana plant more often in between soakings to make sure that it is getting adequate hydration. And when given a good amount of sunlight, their leaves can blush red which also is a good indication that your T. andreana will soon bloom.

Xerographica are known as the "Queen of Air Plants" for good reason! They are the quintessential air plant due to their beautiful recurving leaf structure and amazing bloom spikes. This is one of the easiest air plants to care for as well! They can tolerate bright light and go longer periods without water than most other plants.

Xerographica can be found naturally in El Salvador, Guatemala, and some parts of southern Mexico. They come from arid, desert environments and often go half a year + with zero rainfall. Most of the moisture that Xerographica take in comes from morning dew. Due to these extreme conditions, Xerographica are slower growing and can live many many years.

๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ Your weekly reminder! Remember to wet your plants! Give them a good misting or a soak! They will thank you for it! ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ

Here are a few pictures from today's event!๐ŸŒฟ

Here is a bit more information about the Tillandsia Harrisii I posted about earlier:
Native to Guatemala, the Tillandsia Harrisii is a beautiful soft leaved air plant, and one that is great for beginners. The T. harrisii air plants have silvery grey leaves with ample trichomes that grow in a rosette shape along its stem.
I have noticed that the ones I have LOVE a good soak and more sun. They are nice sturdy plants that will flower under the right conditions.

Making a dwelling place for your air plant can be quite simple! With a few supplies you can make an elegant air plant design like this one pictured below.
Find a small to medium clear glass container and fill it about half way with polished black pebbles. Then add about an inch or two of chartreuse preserved reindeer moss. Press it down firmly so that it can support your plant. Tuck in your plant at the angle that you like and voila you are done!
The plant used in this photo is a Tillandsia Harrisii.

You can never have enough plants!
๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒธ New Plants=Happy Dance!๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒธ

Check out this BEAUTY! This one is called Tillandsia Aeranthos it is one of the classic air plant varieties, prized for its beautiful and long-lasting flowers. It is known in Spanish as "Clavel del Aire" or "Carnation of the Air". When not in bloom, you can admire it's gracefully curved leaves. Each leaf protrudes out from the main center growth point and with time they stack to create a very tall specimen. This species readily produces pups.

โ“How often do I water my air plantsโ“
I get this question quite often. As a general rule of thumb, your plants need water at least once a week. In dryer climates or in the colder season when your furnace is on, water at least two times a week.
๐ŸŒฟ Remove your plant from its "home" and mist it thoroughly, then place it face down on paper towel so that it can dry out completely before you place it back.
๐ŸŒฟ Use spring water, rain water or filtered water. Tap water can contain chemicals that are not beneficial for your plants.
๐ŸŒฟI also recommend fertilizing once a month to provide your plants with the nutrients they need.

๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟMore questions about watering? Stay tuned for future posts or feel free to message me. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ

Dear Santa, I have tried to be really good this year. ๐Ÿ™„ Can you please ๐Ÿ™ bring me this window and all these plants for Christmas?
