Beloved burger joint Judice Inn was first opened in 1947 by Alcide and Marc Judice, brothers who started the business after serving in World War II. The restaurant is now operated by Gerald Judice, Marc’s youngest son, who says his dad and uncle wanted a burger centered around a special sauce created by their sisters and great-aunts. To this day, the cheeseburger is Judice Inn’s most popular item. In addition to the signature “Judice sauce,” burgers are served with mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, and onion slices on the side. And as when it opened, Judice Inn still does not serve french fries.

What a Small-Town Burger Shop Can Teach Us about Investing
Normally, you get to hear my perspective (Logan). But today, you get a treat—wisdom from my better business half, Spencer! Enjoy this as much as I did.
If you’ve spent any amount of time in Lafayette, you probably know those local spots. You know... the ones that generations of folks enjoy. The ones that just seem to have gotten it right.
The one I have in mind today is Judice Inn.
It’s been around since 1947—still family-run, still simple, still serving the same great burger with that signature sauce.
No fries. Nothing fancy. Just a simple place that’s quietly become part of the town’s story. A local legend, in its own right.
This past week, my kids and I spent the day adventuring around town, and on the way home, we stopped in for a burger. As they eagerly waited for their food, I found myself reading the back of the menu—the origin story.
Two brothers. Post-WWII. They built the place by hand—under flashlight after their day jobs—with help from family and friends. They opened Judice Inn with a simple vision: “serve the best burger in town.”
It wasn’t in the heart of the city. It certainly wasn’t flashy. But word spread fast. Because it wasn’t just about the food—it was about the people.
Family kids worked there from age 7, waiting tables by 12. Even as adults—doctors, lawyers, engineers—they’d still show up during busy hours to lend a hand.
Regulars became family. The “Booth 2 Gang” has been gathering there for over 40 years (professors, oil field workers, bankers) all sharing life over simple burgers in a humble environment.
And it’s still that way today.
No gimmicks. No reinventions. Just consistency. One simple product, done right—for decades.
So, what does a burger shop have to do with real estate investing?
A LOT!!
Judice Inn is uncommon. It’s a reminder that longevity isn’t built on constant reinvention, it’s built on doing the right things, with the right people, over time.
And that’s the kind of business I want to build.
Here’s what I took away:
✔ Simplicity scales – Focused models beat complexity.
✔ Consistency builds trust – Deliver a great product every time.
✔ Human connection wins – Relationships outlast automation.
✔ Legacy matters – Short-term wins fade, but impact endures.
At SOW Capital, we’re not chasing trends. We’re focused on doing the right things, for the right reasons, with the right people, over a lifetime.
Because at the end of the day, success isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing the right things well, again and again.
