The Intuitive Writing Project

It all started on July 16, 2013 with a small class at and the support of my dear friend . Among the young writers in attendance was one of our amazing alumni .lamb who was just 11 years old at the time. (She has since graduated from Reed College with a BA in English and Creative Writing.) In that moment, my “crazy dream” became a reality and The Intuitive Writing Project was born. ✨✨✨

There are no words (and not enough pictures) to express my profound, heart-swelling gratitude for every single one of our brilliant young writers and adult supporters (our teachers and parent ambassadors and board members and advisors and counselors and coaches and friends) who helped make these last 12 years possible.

You are the Light and the Magic!

Thank you for bravely speaking your truth and then supporting the truths of everyone around you.

Thank you for believing in the transformative power of writing.

Thank you for just being YOU.🙏🩷

The Intuitive Writing Project will continue as long as I live… but it’s evolving. Over the next few months, you will see a shift in how I talk about it… and a lot more from me directly. (I will attempt to stop hiding…) But the original vision remains intact because it lives in my heart, as does everyone who has ever been part of it. My cup and heart runneth over!

How TIWP inspired Julia:
“TIWP changed my life. Through writing in TIWP as a high schooler, I learned who I am, my passions, dreams, insecurities, strengths, my perceptions of myself and of the world around me. Having a safe, inspiring place to dig deep gave me the opportunity to discover parts of myself that were, until then, uncovered. With the support of an incredible TWIP mentor and lovely, thought-provoking classmates, that self-awareness became self-acceptance, and then, self-love. These strengths have lead me to heights I don’t believe I would have otherwise reached without the growth I exhibited at TIWP student. Since graduating from TIWP, I have continued writing for the purposes of understanding myself and the world. I believe my strengths and values— empathy, curiosity, sisterhood, grace, justice— have clarified my life path. I want to be someone who makes a true change in the world for the better, someone who leads with empathy and compassion; TIWP helped me realize that. I am forever grateful to TIWP and its magic.“

Since Earth Day should be every day and the way we treat the earth is reflected in the way we treat women, we are here to celebrate the words of Chief Seattle who said:

“The earth does not belong to us, we belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. We did not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.”
