A birthday for the beautiful

The day was just as rich and varied as she is, cool and whimsical with magic in the air.

A birthday gift to myself. A workshop with my heroine, at . Her presence is the gift, but her ink transfer lesson, patiently delivered, was a close second. She talks to plants, and they speak back. I would be forever grateful to have a fraction of her healing spirit. Her art is just her embodied. Which makes me cry.💜

CHAIRSGIVING

UL College of the arts has asked local artists to paint beautiful modernist chairs donated by for auction to raise money for . As you know, the money is needed more than ever right now.
These images are my own, and they show clearly what you’re getting. In person the chairs are much better - most of the artists have painted the back with its own unique story (see mine in the first 3 images). The outcomes are all unique, and you’re sure to find something special.

Bidding ends this Thursday with a closing reception in Fletcher hall from 6-8.

We were able to see special faces we have missed as life goes so fast. It’s hard to take pause to appreciate all the love you have gathered around you. I think that’s what these things are about - weddings, big events. I’m so glad we were able to go - it was the perfect night.

All,

The UL Lafayette College of the Arts is raising money, which is needed right now more that I can recall, and they had artists paint these awesome modern chairs donated by IDI in Lafayette, for CHAIRSGIVING. There’s some nice ones in there, and the bidding starts at $300. I could just see a whole set around a table. How cool.

Mines in there, too! Check out the additional photos in there for close-ups. I’ll post in the comments a couple of pictures of the original works which I then collaged onto the chair.

A few months ago, I didn’t know what direction my life was needing to go for my true fulfillment. One thing became apparent - I cannot exist without the act of making art. Aligned with that realization, I received a message from someone who had seen my work at (shown in last slide). She wanted something similar; an owl in a landscape.

For any client I would give the following care:

My first objective was to establish size versus price based on the space and clients needs. The piece she liked in five mile was very large, but hers is about 1/3 the size, as we decided on a generous matting.

I then went to her beautiful home which has a very particular palette and selective pieces from refined artists I truly respect. I was mindful of these things, and up for the challenge. The piece is in the guest room, so it is intended to be dreamy and soft. There are touches of gold shimmer and iridescent mossy green to grab elements of the rooms interior decoration.

I brought my piece by for a look before considering it final, but she loved it as it was 💕

After the piece was considered complete, we discussed framing, like exposing the deckled edge with about a 6” white matting, and what types of frames tend to look best with my works, in the space, where to frame, etc.

I am so grateful the universe sent .c.castille my way, and look forward to seeing the piece framed and in its nest.

Thoroughly enjoyed renovating this building which had no street presence until this front change. One day I’ll find the link between my architectural work and my artworks. Or maybe who cares?
