Jessica Hubbard for CUSD

At 22 years old, I started my first year of public school teaching at a Title I school in Florida. Full of optimism💡. I KNEW I could effect change and I KNEW I could make a difference.⚡️The harsh reality of teaching finally struck me as I was standing at the front step of one of my students trailer homes trying to find out what happened to him. His parents said they didn’t feel like taking him to school anymore.💔

Many many years later, and thousands upon thousands of students later, here’s where I’m at: I KNOW I CAN EFFECT CHANGE. I KNOW I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. And that is why I’m running to become your Capo School Board Trustee in Area 2.🍎🇺🇸

What did “readiness” look like for your family on the night before the first day of school?

For us, it was tucking our kindergartener into bed while validating for her that it’s totally okay to be “a little scared and a little excited” at the same time.😬😃After the kids were both in bed, I spent the rest of the evening spraying down everything my daughter would touch with fabric protector. One of my daughter’s superhero powers is the ability to destroy shoes, backpacks, and lunch bags in a matter of days.🦸🏼‍♀️We will see how long these ones last! Can we make to December?!?

Happy first day of school, Capo kids, families, and teachers! May your school year be as “on point” as a freshly sharpened Number 2 pencil.✏️🍎❤️

As the Chief Program Officer for a community nonprofit that has provided high-quality, inclusive, educational and mental health support programming for over 68 years, I’m glad to see declaring a focus on: expanded learning programs, community schools, anti-bias education, and mental health programs. Addressing the whole child is what leads to healthy, successful, independent individuals. 🧠🫀👁👂As the VP of Research CASEL shared, “Learning is a relational process. We are not simply cognitive. We are not simply emotional. We are not simply social. We are all those things simultaneously.”🕸

We are just a little excited- it’s official, y’all.✅🇺🇸🍎❤️

Sworn & Submitted!✅✅

Candidate Filing Complete✅🙌🏼

This picture is extra special because it was taken by my Capo kiddo. 👩🏻‍💼👧🏼My Kindergartner daughter accompanied me to the OC Registrar of Voters Office today to see civic service in action. I’m so proud that years from now, she will know and remember that she was there for mommy’s big leap into politics—- and more importantly, that this leap was inspired by her. 🍎❤️

A huge thank you to the staff for their kindness, patience, and service. My little one loved the coloring pages and it made the time fly for us!🇺🇸

We’re ready for something different, and I’m ready to deliver.✅

What is more important than the reasons WHY a candidate is running?🧐🤔Nothing, really. I’m running for our students, teachers, and parents. And I’m excited to bring a thoughtful and collaborative approach with me. Will you join me in working together to improve our Capo schools?🤝

Proud to be leading a CUSD School Board campaign that is not based on fear to try to distract voters.

If you know the law, and you know education, like I do, then you know the real threats to our students have nothing to do with a mask and everything to do with how we spend our funding to ensure our students:
-have access to high quality STEAM education 🔬🔭📚🎨
-receive robust enrichment programming 💛
-graduate on-time and pursue some form of higher education 🎓

I would be honored to serve as your Area 2 Trustee and promise there are no smoke and mirrors with me. Just straightforward talk and putting education first.

My name is Jessica Hubbard and I am running for Trustee Area 2 of the Capistrano Unified School District. I am running independent of any political party or special interest group. No political games or partisanship. No ego. Students benefit from strong leadership that puts children first.

I am that leader!
