True story...

I graduated from high school a little early, and started massage school when I was 17 years old.

I was working in the program before I fully graduated. To this day, it was one of the best jobs I ever had! The staff and students were wonderful, the work was fun, I basically got to relearn my core classes over and over... And I received tons of free massages!

I didn't have a car yet, so I walked to and from school/work. It was 40min each way. It feels like I should say uphill both ways, in the snow, like my family used to joke when they talked about their childhoods! 😂

Needless to say, I was determined to get into this career. And I carry that determination with me, even though I have a car now! 🚗

Allow me to introduce myself!

My name is Jessica Smith. I am Board Certified by the NCBTMB and I've been a licensed massage therapist since 2012.

I spent the early part of my career working in the classroom before starting my own business in 2014. I've fallen in love with not just the clinical aspects of massage therapy (pain relief, reduced stress, symptom management) but with the psychological aspects. I love nothing more than when my clients leave my office feeling empowered, listened to, and understood, because I know that's where the real healing happens.

I've been working out of 283 Main Street in Kingston, MA for over 2 years now, and it is my favorite place to be! I now have a room dedicated solely to therapeutic table massage, and another dedicated to clinical Thai massage.

New clients are still welcome in my practice! Please note that there is typically an 8 week wait to get an appointment. I apologize for the long wait, but am grateful to my clients for filling my schedule and allowing me to do what I love.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me! You can also learn more at my web site: www.healingbyjessicarae.com

Had a great time at deep tissue class in Medford. So happy to be back at work today to practice what I learned! I highly recommend you take her class if you ever get the chance. In 2 days I learned more than I thought possible!

What would you do if you had to be north of Boston to take 's Thai massage class, but you got there a day early?
Well... I went to Salem!
It was a perfect day, sunny and 75°! Got all of my walking in so my body & brain will be ready for 16 hours of learning, starting tomorrow.
I'm so looking forward to it!

I had a fabulous time attending the Plymouth "Dancing with our Stars" event this past Friday! Casey Baird, one of the owners of is a member of our group Connect to Community, and we showed up in style to support her and all the fabulous dancers who gave us a magical evening! It was all for a good cause; the money raised goes to the One Fund to support small businesses in need.

If you've never been, I highly recommend you check it out next year! In the meantime, dust off your dancing shoes and try a lesson at Fred Astaire in Plymouth. You won't be disappointed!

Does massage therapy hurt?

The short answer is: no! Neither table nor Thai massage should be "painful."

Massage therapy can be sore, but the feedback I get from clients is that it's "a good hurt."

You should NOT feel the need to grin and bear it through a massage. If you're receiving work and your body is tense and you're just trying to make it through the pain, then it's too intense.

That body tension you're holding is counterproductive to the work we're trying to accomplish, which is to put your body in a parasympathetic state and gently target and release tension while your body is relaxed.

Not to mention that the pain you're feeling could be an indication of tissue damage.

That's not to say that the work can't be deep or intense; massage can be sore, but it shouldn't push you past that point where you feel the need to guard your body.

If you want to feel work that finds the balance of being effective and intense without pushing too hard, give me a call! I'm happy to help you on your healing journey, or answer any questions you may have.
