“This painting is inspired by the March Hare from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I also wanted to capture the feeling of fall, with all of its beautiful, fleeting color.

Rose Madder and Yellow Ochre became the two main colors in the piece, with Quinacridone Magenta and Naphthol Red Light adding even more warmth and intensity.

And boy, were they perfect for it!”

💡 Pro Tip:
An interesting color exploration this week: tinting Quinacridone Magenta with Transparent Marble White vs. Titanium White.

Although both are whites, they produce noticeably different results. Transparent Marble White lightens and softens the color while preserving more of its transparency, while Titanium White quickly increases opacity and creates a more pronounced tint.

Same color. Two very different drawdowns.

This warm, earthy color from our Richeson Casein line sits somewhere between a golden yellow and a natural earth tone. It has enough warmth to bring a sunlit quality to a painting without becoming overly bright or saturated.
