The Parlour

Some objects stay with you long after you look away.

When I first encountered this figure I felt an intensity that both captivated and unsettled me. Its weathered wood, tightly bound form, and embedded nails drew me in—but the presence I experienced made me pause.

I share that encounter in Out of Darkness Into the Light, where this very figure became the focus of a deeply personal exploration of intention, fear, respect, and the energy we leave behind.

“Every nail was a story, a pact, a plea.”

For me, caring for this figure became a lesson in humility: approaching the unknown with respect, recognizing its cultural and spiritual significance, and accepting that some mysteries do not offer answers on demand.

Now available for purchase at The Parlour in Keyport, NJ, this reputedly haunted figure is part of our Cabinet of Curiosities and is ready for its next caretaker—someone drawn to its story and willing to approach it thoughtfully.

Tin Jack Hollow Paper Jack has been through some things.
Poured one in concrete because apparently I needed to know what would happen.
He came out smooth, but I roughed him up made him ragged, ridiculously heavy and looking about 100 years older than when he went in.
I kind of love him.
I may make a handful of these for The Parlour. Meanwhile, the considerably lighter original Paper Jack is still live on Kickstarter.
