Sunset Rotary welcomed Tiffany Pellicier from United Way of Collier and the Keys, who shared how UWCK supports ALICE families across Monroe County and how the community can help keep local food pantries stocked through Feed the Keys, running now through Oct. 9.

UWCK board member and Rotarian Amber Acevedo, along with President Allie Rice, will lead Sunset’s efforts to bring in pounds of dry goods to support families throughout the Keys.

Proud to Support Tunnel to Towers — Honoring Heroes Close to Home

We are proud to support Tunnel to Towers, an organization whose mission has been unwavering since 9/11: standing beside America’s heroes and their families. Their impact is extraordinary — providing mortgage‑free homes to Gold Star families and fallen first responder families with young children, building specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, offering full scholarships to children of their home recipients, and working tirelessly to end veteran homelessness. Their commitment ensures our nation will Never Forget September 11, 2001.

This mission touches our community in a special way. Nicole Gerard, one of our own here in Monroe County, and her daughter received life‑changing support from Tunnel to Towers. Their story reminds us why this work matters and why our support truly makes a difference.

We are honored to stand behind their exhibit and the fun happening this November — a celebration of service, sacrifice, and the strength of community.

Sunset Rotary proudly held our Paul Harris ceremony and honored former President Tim Age with his Paul Harris medal. This recognition is reserved for those who give service above and beyond, and Tim’s robust year of leadership made him more than deserving. Board Member Lynese Mariscal conducted the ceremony with previous recipients on hand for the recognition.

We’re thrilled to welcome him into this elite group of Paul Harris Fellows — a circle of members who exemplify Service Above Self every day. 🌟💙

Last week’s Coastal Cleanup at Smathers Beach brought together Sunset Rotary and our friends from the Key West, Sunrise, and Lower Keys clubs for a meaningful morning of service. With a big turnout, we walked the shoreline collecting trash and cigarette butts — grateful to find the beach already looking beautiful.

Moments like these remind us why Service Above Self matters. Working side‑by‑side with fellow Rotarians to support our environment and community is always time well spent. 🌅✨

🌅 Our club showed up in full force for the Coastal Cleanup at Smathers Beach on Saturday! Sunset Rotarians teamed up with members from the Key West, Sunrise, and Lower Keys clubs to plog along the shoreline — picking up debris, protecting our environment, and keeping our beaches beautiful.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out and to Destination Catering for keeping us fueled with great refreshments. Service Above Self shines brightest when we work together. 🌴💙

Join us Saturday at Smathers Beach at 8:00 am to help keep our beaches clean.

Our weekly meeting will be held at the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort at 6:00 PM.

We are pleased to have District Governor Pete Pecci as our guest. We hope you can join us for an informative meeting.

We were proud to make a donation to AHEC, supporting the vital services they provide to children and families throughout the Keys. Their work continues to make a real difference, and our club is honored to stand behind it.

We also heard an engaging presentation from Nicole Gerard, about the upcoming Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk happening Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Big Pine Park in Big Pine Key. This powerful event honors the military members and first responders who lost their lives on 9/11 and raises funds for catastrophically injured veterans and fallen service families. Nicole and her daughter were personally affected after her husband, a local first responder, died in the line of duty and Tunnel to Towers helped them keep their home. Former CFO Steven Rutherford was also on hand to share his personal story about how the run began. Please support!

Such an inspiring cause and a great opportunity for our community to come together.

Then we welcomed Julie Shilling, our Area DG, who brought us up to date on district Rotary activities and shared exciting things happening across the Keys. Always wonderful to have her energy and leadership with us.

It was a great crowd, full of connection and purpose. We look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00 PM at the Doubletree for our regular meeting. We will welcome Dr. Jeffrey Snipes from Save Our First Responders Run as our speaker. 🌅✨
