Who can tell me the estimated year of this pickup and travel trailer? Photo has to have been made before April, 1954, when the toll booths on the Overseas Highway went away.

Pictured is one of the two toll booths once located on the Overseas Highway between Lower Matecumbe and Big Pine Key. The Overseas highway from Key Largo to Key West was opened on July 4, 1938. It remained a toll road –with two booths—until April 15, 1954. The Florida State Road Department posted signs advertising the “Florida Freeway” but local protests quickly led to them being replaced by signs acknowledging the “Overseas Highway.”

It's been almost two years since Jimmy Buffett passed away, and there will be another festival to honor the late beloved singer-songwriter just as there was last year.

Not only are a variety of activities, events, and performances lined up, but Key West, Florida is going to proclaim August 30th Jimmy Buffett Day, with a parade to follow one day later.

“This is about more than music,” Just a few Friends co-organizer Paul Menta said in a statement. “We honor Jimmy’s memory by immersing people in the island he loved—the people, the history, the sunsets, the flavors. It’s a celebration of a way of life.”
