Most soccer parents are doing everything right, the early mornings, the long drives, the financial sacrifice, the sideline support. The love is never the problem. But sometimes the way we show up for our athletes can quietly work against them. Yelling instructions from the stands. Getting frustrated after mistakes. Measuring their worth in goals and stats. Comparing them to other players. Fighting battles they need to learn to fight themselves. None of it comes from a bad place. It comes from wanting the best for them. I work with youth soccer players on the mental and physical habits that actually move the needle, so that when the moment comes, they’re ready. Not because someone pushed them. Because they built it themselves. If any of this resonated, share it with a parent who needs to see it. This is what we’ve normalized. What we tolerate, we allow. Grown adults screaming, losing control, and making a youth game feel like a pressure cooker for KIDS!! And then we wonder why: • Kids quit • Officials disappear • Great coaches resign • Anxiety goes up • Love of the game goes down This isn’t “passion.” It’s misplaced emotion with no accountability. Kids aren’t the problem. The environment we’re creating is. If the adults in the stands can’t model composure, perspective, and respect, we’re not teaching competition. We’re teaching chaos.
