Thank you to the Ketchikan Daily News for always showing up to cover our games and capture those awesome sports shots! We especially love the ones from today's morning paper!
And a huge thank you to the amazing umpires, volunteers, and fans who came out in that weather last night. That was something else!
During our Varsity game against Sitka, it rained well over three-quarters of an inch, with winds blowing around 25 mph and gusts between 31β40 mph. There are no tougher athletes than Southeast Alaska softball players!
Make sure you turn up the sound and watch that flag in the background. π§οΈπ¨π₯

Kayhi Lady Kings Finish 4th Out of 15 Varsity Teams!
The Kayhi Lady Kings wrapped up tournament play with another hard-fought battle and finished 4th place out of 15 varsity teams at the Rally in the Valley Softball Tournament! We are so proud of the grit, heart, and fight these girls showed all week long.
Kayhi came out swinging, with Emily Mendoza helping set the tone early with a big triple. Peyton Nickich added a solid base hit and kept pressure on the defense with her speed, while Lilly Brakke came through with a strong day at the plate, collecting two base hits and continuing to battle for her team. Ashlyn Hanchey added a hit of her own, and Willow Vierra-Sonnenschein showed great patience and discipline, reaching base multiple times with walks.
The Lady Kings also made things happen on the bases. Cereniti Buendia, Peyton Nickich, Mariah Pechay-Austin, Marley Phillips, Ashlyn Hanchey, and Ashlyn Harold all helped keep Kayhi aggressive and moving, putting pressure on Kenaiβs defense throughout the game.
Defensively, Kayhi had strong moments across the field, including plays from Ashlyn Harold at shortstop, Aleigha Currall at first, Willow Vierra-Sonnenschein in the circle, and solid work from the infield to keep battling every inning.
This team should be proud. They battled through a competitive tournament, kept showing up for each other, and earned a top-four finish against a strong varsity field.
Way to go, Lady Kings! 4th out of 15 varsity teams is something to be proud of!

Final game of Rally in the Valley, and these two Lady Kings earned their spotlight! π₯π₯
Congratulations to Emily Mendoza for being named Player of the Game! Emily came out swinging and helped spark Kayhiβs offense with a big triple to get things rolling. She also held it down at third base, making plays from the hot corner and bringing that locked-in energy her team needed in the final game of the tournament.
A huge shoutout also goes to Peyton Nickich for earning the Sportsmanship Award! Peyton battled at the plate, came through with a base hit, stole a base, and kept putting pressure on the defense. At second base, she stayed ready and helped make key defensive outs when the Lady Kings needed them.
Emily and Peyton both showed what Lady Kings softball is all about: hustle, heart, toughness, and team-first energy. Way to finish strong, ladies! ππ€β€οΈ

Big-time recognition for Amanda Sivertsen in Game #1 today against Delta! π₯π₯
Amanda earned both Player of the Game and the Sportsmanship Award, and she absolutely deserved it. She showed up ready to work, brought her steady team energy, and never backed down.
At the plate, Amanda came through with a base hit and also battled her way on with a walk, finding ways to help her team and keep the pressure on. On defense, she held it down at first base, doing her job and helping make the plays when the Lady Kings needed outs.
Amanda is the kind of player every team needs. She brings hard work, drive, a great attitude, and that never-give-up mindset every time she steps on the field.
Way to go, Amanda! Keep grinding, keep believing, and keep bringing that Lady Kings fight. ππ€β€οΈ

Kayhi Wins Game #1 of Final Tournament Day!
The Lady Kings came out ready to play and started Final Tournament Day with a strong 9-1 win over Delta!
Peyton Nickich #22 set the tone in the circle, keeping Delta quiet and trusting her defense to work behind her. Kayhi stayed steady, patient, and aggressive at the plate, breaking the game open with a big 4-run 2nd inning and then adding 5 more in the 3rd to take control.
The offense was rolling up and down the lineup. Amanda Sivertsen #21 helped spark things with a base hit and a walk, Emily Mendoza #10 added a single and worked a walk, Mariah Pechay-Austin #14 came through with a base hit, Lilly Brakke #16 battled her way on, Ashlyn Hanchey #12 reached twice and helped keep the pressure on, and Ashlyn Harold #20 delivered a big double to help push runs across.
Nice work, Lady Kings! Strong pitching, solid defense, and aggressive at-bats helped Kayhi start Final Tournament Day with a statement win. Keep it rolling! π₯πβ€οΈ
