How is it that ...
women (and mothers among them) continue to
confuse us so much? Is this why we can't stop
explaining them ... in such simple ways?
Simple ways
that suit us.
Come study with us ... In Women's Studies.
We have great courses lined up for Summer and Fall of 2021.
Opinion | Just in time for Mother’s Day, a lousy myth about moms, kids and work makes a comeback. Republicans are running with it. Give. Me. A. Break.

even as it parades in mess and oh-so-very complex.

to which even little girls may aspire
and away from which even little boys run like the devil.

Through the eyes of Artist Sue Johnson, women--as depicted
by 20th Century advertising--were never more than HALF HUMAN.
Always at least half THING, They may have been consumers,
but they were also ... the consumed.
And hey! By the way, we're studying this very phenomenon
(and much more)~ this Spring ...
in Women's Studies.

WMST - 30000 COLLOQUIUM IN WOMEN'S STUDIES
This is our classic conversation course. We launch a semester long inquiry into zones both conventional (Is is a man’s world?) and not (What does feminism have to do with Marilyn Monroe and vice versa?), both contemporary (How do you measure the loss of RBG on the Supreme Court?) and historical (What was—and is—The Woman Question?)
WMST - 30095 SPECIAL TOPICS IN WOMEN'S STUDIES
We have three (count them!) compelling topics open for exploration.
Take one—or two—or take all three. The subjects, by their very nature, invite you.
WMST - 30095 – 002
THE ESSENTIAL WORK OF WOMEN/PANDEMIC 2020-21: REVIEWING AND REVALUING SITUATIONS
This course is, as you might guess, inspired by both realities and headlines born of
the pandemic that hit worldwide early in 2020—stripping bare many of our illusions
about the lives we live in context, the work that keeps the world going—no matter.
By summer of 2020, the truth was out: story after story, the unsung work of women. Our studies will begin where we are, but we won’t be stopping there.
WMST - 30095 – 003
REPRESENTATIONS OF WOMEN IN POPULAR CULTURE
This course has been around! It’s vital stuff: the business of representation is alive and well—fueled as always by s*x and violence, even if repackaged and remarketed with makeovers and twists.
WMST - 30095 – 004
R**E CULTURE – ROOTS, EVOLUTIONS, FACTS AND FICTIONS There is nothing simple or easy or incontrovertible or cool in R**e Culture.
Where shall we dig to locate its roots, trace its evolutions? Parse apart the reality from the myth?
In an address to a men’s conference, Andrea Dworkin boiled the subject down to powers practically guaranteed—"power exercised … institutionalized … protected …” Come study with us.
All our courses for Spring 2021 are 100% Online.
Our courses on offer for Spring are rich and varied and relevant as the air. The Colloquium, Representations of Women.
R**e Culture and The Essential Work of Women/Pandemic 2020 are brand new. Electric. Important.

WMST 20095-001 – WITCHES: THE MONSTROUS FEMININE
IN PANDEMIC TIMES (CRN: 29825)
The Witch. The Monstrous Feminine. Pandemic.
These are all words with screams built in—darkness, danger, fear ...
and history. There’s something very old here that’s somehow hung on.
Our course will pursue a dig into the telling past, but we will also study
the very time we’re in—and how gender melds with monstrous,
how constructions of femininity sit precariously on edges of witch, bitch,
w***e, she- devil, how female agency triggers alarm and accusation,
how the phenomenon of a pandemic alters permissions,
disrupts but at once reinforces order. 100% Online.
