Hello friends. We need advice.

The past week has been a crazy one for us. The BLACKWIND film premiere was pretty successful. And placing our quaint little horror flick on YouTube has gotten us more attention in a week than anything else we’ve ever done. But with that attention, it seems we’re getting some obstacles.

We just want people to see the film. We’ve got a really small fan base, a tiny operation and we don’t do things for money. So YouTube was a clear choice due to easy access for people.

Originally, YouTube said the film was no good in certain conservative countries, but was fine to play in most. Including USA and Canada. We had a laugh about being rebels and bunches of people watched and we got some great feedback.

A week later, we had some traction. So the folks at YouTube apparently took another gander at BLACKWIND and decided now that it’s not for most folks. They specifically don’t like the gore, the language or the sexuality. The same stuff they said was fine earlier. By the way, they never even mentioned our acting, which is the truly offensive material in the film.

So they slapped the film with a Restricted label. Which is fair enough. But now, to view BLACKWIND, you have to be 18 and logged in to an account. Additionally, we no longer qualify for any advertising for the film, due to its Restricted status. As you can imagine, views have slowed considerably.

Now we could appeal the Restricted status. But it’s hard to argue against the blood, violence, f-bombs and the sexuality of our boy Brendan in a kitty cat speedo. And we’re not censoring anything for the man. First Amendment baby!

Also, it’s a comedy with our kids in it, so relax. Or don’t watch it. Whatever.

Anyway, what we need from you guys is two things: first and foremost, share the film. It’s out there, but it needs grassroots pushing for the moment.

And second, give us advice: How can we get the most eyeballs on our somehow controversial film that’s getting held back a bit in the YouTube sphere?

BLACKWIND only exists because our extras completely showed out for us. They were a crowd of goth fans cheering for a band. They were a group of people in a party. They were murderous vampires that eat Conor’s guts.

But most importantly, they were patient and helpful to a few creative guys trying to put a crazy horror film project together.

A little over a year ago, while we were neck deep in edits for the Godfire music video, I brought up a question to Brendan and Jake: “Do you guys think we could make a campy, low-budget slasher film?”

And they both cautiously said “yes.”

I didn’t know I was going to be doing months of research on the horror genre or writing piles of notes on sound design. I’d never written a script before, let alone a comedy where I was creating larger- than-life versions of my real best friends. And for the record, I don’t know how many writers aim for intentional bad acting.

The process of preparing for the shoot was truly a joy though. Writing. Storyboarding. Location scouting. Scheduling. It’s a puzzle that evolves as you go.

And the shoot itself was a challenging monster in itself. But Brendan, Jake and I all leaned on each other. We truly were flying by the seat of our pants balancing schedules, availabilities and logistics of all kinds.

We borrowed the time and effort of so many talented and wonderful people, we can’t begin to express our gratitude. This project could have tanked in a hundred different ways without the help of so many.

If your name is in the credits, YOU MADE BLACKWIND. We’ll never be able to thank you enough.

The editing process was a six month push and pull of constant notes back and forth. Brendan did the heavy lifting here and KILLED IT.

Last night, we had a premiere party that was truly special. Not only did we get to share our crazy little film with our friends and family, but we shared the stage with our friends in Kaligo, Erasing Never, Ichabod Crane and Throbber. It was an amazing night.

So with all that said, here she is: BLACKWIND. In all her over the top, mayhem, violence and pierogi-infused glory!!! So watch it, laugh about it and share it with everyone you can!!!

Our sincerest thanks go out to The Portager for giving us a chance to talk about BLACKWIND and its Premiere/ Concert this Friday at The Outpost Concert Club. It’s not an easy topic to grasp and they did an excellent job.

Local band Drop to Zero will premier a horror film in Kent June 27 Hard rock meets spoof horror in “Blackwind,” a once-local band’s self-produced and acted film set to premiere June 27 at The Outpost in Kent.
