PSA about Electrical Licensing:

Hiring an unlicensed electrician in Texas can put your home, family, and wallet at serious risk.

There are ALOT of apprentice/joirneyman electricians in the area doing independent electrical work and claiming it is legal. Here are the facts about proper licensing requirements.

Electrical work done improperly can lead to:• House fires• Electrical shock or electrocution• Failed inspections• Voided homeowners insurance claims• Expensive repairs later• Unsafe conditions hidden behind walls

In Texas, electrical work is regulated for a reason. To legally perform electrical work for the public, a person must hold a Masters license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and ALSO have a contractors license and liability insurance. Some electrical work also requires permits and inspections through the local jurisdiction. But it is NOT LEGAL to just have an apprentice or journeyman license and perform electrical work.

An apprentice or journeyman may only perform work under the direct supervision of a licensed/insured Master. Anything else is against the law. Its common for general contractors to claim that their insurance covers the electrical work of "electricians" working for them but that is certainly not legal.

Before hiring anyone:
✅ Ask for their Texas electrical license number
✅ Verify it through TDLR
✅ Ask if permits will be pulled
✅ Make sure the company is insured

And complaints can easily be filed here against anyone doing work illegally or in an unsafe manner. Hefty fines can be issued or the persons license can be taken away permanently.
