Join us Monday, October 12, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, to learn about Diabetes Prevention. Presented by Ryan Gant from Fort Bend County Health and Human Services, this workshop will focus on Type 2 diabetes, sugar cravings, the blood-sugar rollercoaster, and medication adherence. Registration is not required, but seats are limited so come early!

Today's 2026 2x2 award book highlight from the Youth collection is "the Monster in the Lake," by Leo Timmers. When one of the ducks wants to go to the lake, Eric asks about the monster that lives there. The other ducks assure him that that’s just a story and there are only fish and frogs in the lake, so he follows them reluctantly. When he peeks his head below the surface, he sees the huge horned monster there. When he shouts to the other ducks, they think he is joking and keep on swimming. Eric soon finds himself face-to-face with the monster, but it’s not quite what he expected.

The 2×2 Award -- an annually updated children's reading list selected by the Children's Round Table at the Texas Library Association -- is recommended for children age 2 to grade 2. This TLA designation highlights the best recent children’s books for early readers, offering a trusted, diverse, and engaging selection for young audiences.

To get a free library card, you will need a valid photo ID and proof of residence in the state of Texas. If your Texas driver's license is unexpired and has your current address on it, that is all you need. Just come bring it with you to the library and fill out an application to get a card.
