In 1964, Carroll Shelby had a problem. His Cobra roadster was fast — but not fast enough. At Le Mans, wind resistance was capping it out before it could catch Ferrari.
So Pete Brock did something radical: he redesigned the Cobra into a closed coupe, shaped purely to cut through the air.
The result won Shelby the 1965 World GT Championship. It’s the only American car to ever do it.
Only six were ever built.
This is the Superformance Daytona Coupe — the Shelby-licensed Street Version of that car, hand-built with Pete Brock’s original design and eligible for the Shelby Registry.

Meanwhile, one of just six original Shelby Cobra Daytonas ever built—and the only example once owned by Carroll Shelby himself—is headed to auction next month at Pebble Beach. Chassis CSX2300 helped Ford secure the 1965 FIA GT Championship, later raced in Japan through 1968, and was acquired by Shelby in 1975. Powered by a 385 hp 4.7-liter V-8, it’s expected to sell for more than $25 million.
