WHEN A WHALE RISES BENEATH A GOLDEN MOON
A breathtaking alignment makes the whale’s tail appear to touch the glowing full Moon as water cascades back into the sea. A perfectly timed perspective can turn an ordinary moment into something unforgettable.

WHEN THE MOON GROWS A RAINBOW CROWN

On certain nights, the Moon can appear surrounded by beautiful rings of blue, green, yellow and red — almost like a tiny rainbow wrapped around the lunar disk.

This phenomenon is called a lunar corona. It forms when moonlight passes through thin clouds containing very small, similarly sized water droplets. The light diffracts around those droplets, producing one or several colorful rings close to the Moon.

It’s different from the much larger 22° lunar halo, which is created by ice crystals. Coronas are smaller, more colorful, and can change dramatically as thin clouds drift across the Moon.
Look for them on bright Moon nights when a delicate veil of cloud passes overhead — sometimes the clouds don’t hide the Moon; they decorate it.

WHEN THE SUNSET SKY SMILES BACK

Three birds cross an orange sunset at exactly the right moment — two forming what look like eyes, while the third curves beneath them like a giant smile.

There’s a name for why we instantly recognize a face here: pareidolia. Our brains are exceptionally good at finding familiar shapes, especially faces, even when they appear accidentally in clouds, landscapes or moving animals.

Add the tiny red Sun sinking toward the horizon and the whole scene suddenly feels alive .. as if the evening sky decided to smile before disappearing.

THE MOON RISES LIKE A GIANT LANTERN
A glowing full moon appears enormous as it rises behind distant mountains, framed by a lone tree and windswept grass. Near the horizon, perspective and atmospheric conditions can make a moonrise feel especially dramatic.

WHEN A RAINBOW WATERFALL FALLS FROM THE CLOUDS

High above a mountain valley, a break in the storm seems to release a spectacular waterfall of rainbow light, pouring from the clouds toward the peaks below.

The scene evokes a combination of rain shafts, sunlight and atmospheric diffraction. When sunlight reaches tiny droplets or ice crystals around a storm, light can separate into vivid colors, while falling precipitation creates the appearance of long vertical curtains.

The contrast makes it unforgettable — dark red storm clouds above, green mountains below, and an explosion of color suspended between them.
For a moment, it looks as though the clouds are pouring a rainbow into the mountains.

WHEN A DUST DEVIL GROWS INTO A GIANT COLUMN

Across a hot, dry landscape, a spinning column of dust suddenly rises from the ground and stretches high into the blue sky, sending people nearby rushing away.
This is known as a dust devil. Unlike a tornado, it can form under clear skies when intense sunshine heats the ground, causing hot air near the surface to rise rapidly. If that rising air begins rotating, it can pull sand and dust upward into a towering vortex.
Most dust devils are relatively small, but some can grow surprisingly tall and powerful, especially across deserts, dry lake beds and other sun-baked open terrain.
It can begin as a swirl of dust — and seconds later look like a giant spinning pillar connecting the ground to the sky.
