I think most business owners overestimate what visitors are actually judging when they land on your website.🤔

Things like your logo, fonts, or color palette.

But here's the thing, they're not picking apart anything individually. They're taking in the whole experience at once and within seconds, they're asking themselves two questions.

Can I trust this business?🤝

Is this the right business for me?

That decision happens before anyone scrolls past the first section of your website.

Which means what your website actually needs isn't a beautiful logo. It's clarity.

A cluttered layout. Inconsistent fonts. A homepage that doesn't say what you do right away. Any of that is enough to make someone leave, even if the work behind it is genuinely great.

Websites don't need to be perfect. They need to be clear.

I think we put way too much pressure on the visual part of branding.

The logo. The colors. The website. The Instagram feed.

I’m a designer, don’t get me wrong, I obviously think those things matter 😂

But they’re only 10% of what actually makes a brand work.

Think of it like an iceberg.

The 10% above the water is everything people can physically see: your logo, website, social graphics, all the visual pieces we think of when we hear “branding.”

But then there’s the other 90% underneath the water that no one can see.

Who are you trying to connect with?
What do you want to be known for?
What feelings do you want people to associate with your brand?
What parts of your personality should come through in your brand?

That’s the part that gets skipped way too often.

Because it’s easy to look at your brand or website and think, “Maybe I just need to redesign this.”

But if you haven’t figured out that other 90%, changing the part above the water probably isn’t going to fix what feels off.

Sometimes it’s not the design that needs to change.

It’s what the design is built on.

These months keep passing by so quickly and August went by in a blur. We squeezed in one more camping trip, threw in some beach trips and had one last round on the water slide before it got packed away for the year.

We’ve officially gotten into the swing of things with school back in session. Well, for the most part. 😂 I’m still adjusting to these scheduled early mornings, which have basically been nonexistent since having kids.

Been working on a lot of one off projects lately, which, to be honest, has been a welcome break from the more extensive website projects.

What I’d really love to work on is some branding!

That’s the part SEO can’t fix.
