Promoting animal welfare by educating, protecting & sheltering stray, abandoned, & surrendered pets.

Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and exp

Meet Edamame, a gorgeous feline who’s ready to begin her new life 🐱✨

Edamame came to Juneau Animal Rescue about 2 months ago, along with a couple of kittens she birthed and another adult cat. Edamame was in and out, getting the help she needed to raise her kittens from a foster home to have them grow up away from the shelter environment. She and her kittens returned, but Edamame seemed to be the only one left, her kittens finding homes almost immediately. ❤️‍🩹

Edamame was spayed and since then, she’s been waiting patiently for her turn at a 2nd chance. Because Juneau Animal Rescue is struggling with cat space, she hasn’t been able to socialize with other cats within a room. We aren’t sure if her relationships with other felines are flexible, but we do know for certain she’s a people lover! 🥰Edamame loves to be around visitors more than she likes to play. She allows folks to pick her up briefly and will even make biscuits in their arms! She won’t play much, but she also won’t say no to catching a ribbon toy. Edamame loves to rub all up over you and tries her very best to convince you that she’s the one! 🙌

This beautiful tabby cat is about 2 years old and full of so much life! Let’s help Edamame unlock her true potential and become the best house cat she can be!

Visitation is from 1 PM to 5 PM!🐾

Happy Mother’s Day to all, including our beloved Gracie ☀️💖

You may have seen a couple puppy photos floating around, but did you ever wonder where they came from? 🤔

Gracie is a Husky from Angoon that’s just about a year old. Because of some wandering dogs, she wound up with an accidental litter and a one way ticket to Juneau Alaska. Gracie was doing great with her puppies until she was stuck with them 24/7! The puppies were lucky to have stuck with their mother for as long as they did, but eventually, they were weaned and momma was free! 💕

Since Gracie had been without her pups, her mental health has improved and she’s grateful to start receiving some one-on-one attention with our staff! She’s full of energy, loves to play, and gives the best hugs and kisses! Gracie loves treats and takes them as easy as she can holster that self control, but she may need a little help learning some personal space. 🥰

Gracie is a big sweetheart with people, but we’re unsure how she’d do with other dogs. Kenneling next to so many canines has been troublesome to say the least, so with all that added stress, it’s hard to say if she’d do well in a multi-dog household. When it comes to cats, we think maybe she’d stay a little far from them, as she had a small tendency to chase her puppies when they would play and run from her! 😅

Gracie is most definitely in need of a nice, relaxing spa day where she can rid all of those loose tufts of fur and show off that lovely coat of hers! Momma needs some time to herself, but also she longs to be apart of a family. Gracie has recently had her spay surgery and is almost ready to find her forever home! Stop by Juneau Animal Rescue or visit our website and look out for Gracie! 🙌💕

Little Sterling needs a home! 🙌

This is Sterling, a handsome young kitten whose luck seems to have just ran out. 🥺

When Sterling arrived at JAR, he was SO tiny! Like.. Super itty-bitty! Because of this, we placed him in a foster home where he could get the care he needed and thrive in a non-shelter setting. ✨

Now that Sterling is ready to find his forever home, he had to return to JAR. Why is this troublesome for Sterling? Well, the shelter is running low on space, so the only place Sterling can get the most attention while being separated from other cats is our green room kennels. These kennels are great for visibility, but small and cramped for any cat- big or small. Poor Sterling, a kitten who’s ready to play with other cats and people, now needs to try a little harder to wiggle his way into the hearts of visitors! 💕🐱

If you’re looking to add a little extra pocket lint to your family, we cannot suggest Sterling more! You can stop by Juneau Animal Rescue from 1 Pm to 5 PM and meet this amazing cat! 🐾
Don’t forget we’re also at the Maritime Festival until 5 PM!

They’ve come from a world of their own.. 🌙🪐✨

Our yellow room cats all come from the same household and are all ready to find a place to call home. 🐱❤️‍🩹

Upon walking in, you can expect to meet cats like Pluto and Neptune, who love to make new friends and eat all of the treats you’re hiding! On top of our counters, you’ll most likely find Venus or Jupiter, cats that can be a little more antisocial, but aren’t opposed to affection. Mercury and Saturn are typically found in the tall cat tree, huddling together with another cat or perching to view the room from above. 💕

Then there’s Comet, a round orange tabby who’s still coming around. Comet was the outdoor cat, and so he never officially became apart of the group once they arrived at JAR. Comet can usually be found sleeping in round, comfy beds low to the ground. He’s a sweet boy who will flourish in a calm home with lots of window-light for bird watching. ☀️🐦‍⬛

Juneau Animal Rescue is filling up with cats! We’re starting to overcrowd rooms and kennels, and so we’re hoping we get some of these cuties into new homes soon! If you’re interested in opening up your home to a furry friend in need, then adopt with Juneau Animal Rescue! All of our animals come spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped! ✅

Visitation starts tomorrow from 1 PM to 5 PM! 🐾

🐾 Cat Intake Update 🐾

We’re currently caring for 45 cats and are quickly reaching our capacity. Our team is doing everything we can, but space is extremely limited.

If you’re considering rehoming a cat, we kindly ask that you hold off if possible and try to find a home through friends, family, or our community first.

Found a “stray” cat?
If the cat appears healthy, please don’t bring them to the shelter. Many are actually owned outdoor or community cats. Instead, take a photo, post in local groups, and check with neighbors, this is often the fastest way to reunite them with their owner.

Want to help?
Now is a great time to adopt! Giving a cat a home helps us make space for others in need. Apply to adopt here: https://www.juneauanimalrescue.org/adoption-application.html

Thank you for your understanding and support 💛

Found cat: Someone in Switzer has been seeing this stray cat around, and recently became worried because he is pretty skinny, he has paint on his ear, and he seems to have an upset stomach; so they brought him in to JAR to make sure he gets the care he needs. He is an absolute sweetheart, melting into scritches and pets, so we imagine he must have a home that's missing him! If this is your cat, call 789-6997 to make a time to come pick him up. (Unaltered male, no microchip.)
