Meet the team at the Juneau Media Center continues! This time, we’re getting to know Dan O!

“I am from a small town in Michigan called Dundee, known for its wrestling team and the massive Cabela’s store. I graduated from Central Michigan University, Fire up Chips! Where I met my eventual wife.

After graduating college I moved out west and began in small market radio in Kingman AZ. I started on the afternoon shift, doing production and sales. Years later I found myself running the Country Fried Morning Show on KGMN and was general manager of the station all before I was 30. I left KGMN to go work for the Hualapai Tribe and helped them develop one of the first tribal priority license tribal FM stations in the country, KWLP the Peach, now proudly known as KWLP Walapai 100.9FM. I was the operations manager there for 6 years while running the morning hoedown morning show. I taught youth and elders about being on the radio so they could give their culture back to their community, it was so rewarding. I moved to work for the Juneau media center in 2020 as the operations manager and Morning show host for KINY. I did that for three years and now work more behind the scenes helping broadcast sports, remotes, podcasts and weekend shifts on TAKU 105.

I love all the Alaska things of Fishing, Hiking, and camping. I love hanging out with my wife and daughter. I do have a blue and gold macaw that I have had since I was kid that gets my attention as well. I love board games, mountain biking and binging true crime docs.

Working at the Juneau Media Center is about connections and the community. It means people have a true local source of information. It’s a place where people can go to embrace their community because it’s community that keeps us on air. Makes me proud to be part of something that can truly embrace what it means to be local.”

It was Tuesday, September 11th, 2001.
Across America, people were getting ready for work. Children were heading to school. Morning television shows were on. The sky over New York was clear and blue.

Then, at 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Seventeen minutes later, a second plane struck the South Tower.

A seemingly ordinary Tuesday morning had become a moment America would never forget.

Twenty-five years later, we remember where we were. We remember what we felt. And most importantly, we remember those who never came home.
