It was an honor and joy to meet some of our Alaskan authors and illustrators at Celebration! Our Alaska section is one of the most-frequented by both visitors and residents at the libraries. These books represent Alaskan history, culture, and a broad range of perspectives across a vast landscape. Thank you for sharing your art and writing so we in turn can share it with the community!

Our very own Library Assistant Lacey and her Fairy House Workshop were recently featured in American Libraries Magazine! Lacey has spread the joy of fairy houses across the country by sharing her templates and program design with other libraries. Check out our events page for upcoming kid and adult workshops this summer!

The Gnome Depot | American Libraries Magazine Workshops where participants create fairy or gnome houses, offered at public libraries across the country, are gaining traction.

Tulips are in bloom at the Douglas Library, and whatever the weather we are embracing the summer season! If you haven’t signed up for Summer Reading yet, stop by any library location for a reading game with reading goals and activities relating to this year’s theme: Plant a Seed, Read! Summer Reading is for all ages, with special prizes for both kids and adults when you hand in your completed games.

Juneau Public Libraries and Friends of Juneau Public Libraries are bringing The Lorax (PG) to Floyd Dryden on June 13 as part of their summer reading program—Plant a Seed, Read!

Two show times are available:
• 1 p.m. | Movie in the Park
• 3:30 p.m. | Sensory-Friendly Movie in the Park

The libraries will be closed Monday. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

It’s time to start planting seeds and seeing how much your reading journey grows over the course of the summer!

The Summer Reading Program is officially open, with prizes available to readers of all ages. We encourage families to sign up together and make it a group activity!
