Curbside food scrap recycling, making composting easy for you! Grow your garden with compost!

STORY TIME: This is a traditional food of the Acadian people of Northern Maine, and it satisfies my soul. Lettuce, scallions, sour cream, and salt. Growing up we would drive to a house with a lettuce sign down the road. The person would lay down a yard stick and cut a yard of loose leaf lettuce from the row and stuff it into a plastic bag along with a few scallions, just pulled. At home we would swish the lettuce around in water to clean it, then whip up this dish, “salad de jardin,” which translates from French to “garden salad.” Growing these simple foods in my garden is a staple of my life, and preparing and eating them is the absolute best. I hope YOU’LL try growing and eating it!

128, 150, 120. Temperatures vary in different parts of a compost pile, even taken just a foot or two apart. The difference is usually due to oxygen levels. We are always striving to be around the magic number of 131 degrees. Time to turn this windrow!
