Medical Assistant/Clinical Support Specialist
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to support a growing outpatient psychiatric practice. This role is focused primarily on clinical patient care and provider support, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality psychiatric services.
The Medical Assistant will play a key role in patient preparation, clinical documentation, medication workflows, and coordination of care, while maintaining a supportive and professional environment for patients.
Position Overview
The Medical Assistant will provide direct clinical support to the psychiatric provider, assisting with patient intake, vital signs, medication management processes, and coordination of labs and documentation.
This position is ideal for someone with experience or strong interest in behavioral health or psychiatry
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Perform patient intake, including:
reviewing and updating medical and psychiatric history
verifying current medications and allergies
documenting chief complaints and symptom updates
Obtain and document vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, weight, height)
Prepare patients for psychiatric medication management visits
Assist with medication-related workflows, including:
refill requests
pharmacy communication
prior authorizations
Support lab coordination, including:
ordering labs per provider direction
tracking results
uploading results for provider review
Assist with urine drug screening protocols and documentation when indicated
Monitor and upload external records (hospital discharges, specialist notes, labs)
Ensure all clinical documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner within the EHR
Patient Care Support
Provide basic patient education regarding:
medication instructions (as directed by provider)
follow-up care
lab requirements
Assist patients with telehealth readiness when needed
Maintain a calm, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment, especially for patients with mental health or substance use concerns
Clinical Coordination
Communicate with pharmacies, labs, and other healthcare providers as needed
Assist with coordination of care for:
primary care providers
therapists
specialists
Support the completion of clinical forms
Qualifications
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant preferred
Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience (psychiatry or primary care preferred)
Strong knowledge of:
vital signs
medical terminology
medication workflows
Experience with EHR systems
Familiarity with prior authorizations and pharmacy communication
BLS certification preferred
Pay: $13.00 per hour
