Most teenagers see dentistry from the patient's chair. These Jackson Academy students took on the dentist's perspective.
Dr. Reid Lester '94, a Flowood periodontist who specializes in dental implants and teaches at the UMMC School of Dentistry, led students through a dental school-level implant lab.
Working on their own mandible models under his supervision, they performed implants and learned how each instrument works and why technique matters.
Afterward, students wrote lab report reflections on what they learned and whether dentistry might be in their future.
Thank you, Dr. Lester, for bringing the dental school to our classroom, and to science faculty member Jacob Sullivan for organizing the visit.
