Forrest General Cancer Center Fuel to Fight

Happy Tuesday! -‭‭Psalm ‭55:22‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ [22] Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
📖

The original Hebrew text of Psalm 55: To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Contemplation of David.

We do not know the direct correlation to this psalm that connects a crisis in David's life, but one thing is for sure. He's experiencing affliction.

*David is crying out to God. He's restless. His thoughts are being consumed by the voice of the enemy and by the stares of the wicked. (v.1-3)

These thoughts had David wanting to take wings like a dove and fly away and be at rest. (v.6)

David mentioned that this slander is not caused by his enemy, but someone he knew. (v.12)

David is to a point where he's asking God to take care of his enemies. (v.13-14)

David had confidence that God would answer his prayers. (v.19)

David's enemy (unknown to us) was like a wolf in sheep clothing. (v.20-21)

David would have an answer to his problems. Give your cares to the Lord and he will keep you. (v.22)

Closing: Holding on to your burdens only causes more stress in your life. Apostle Peter shared with the first century church in 1 Peter 5:7 about casting their cares upon Him. For the cares for you.

Have you ever been fishing before? You know how you cast your line in the water? That's what God wants you to do with your burdens. Throw them to Him! ☝️

“God imposes burdens, to see what we will do with them. We may carry them to our undoing, or we may cast them on Him for his blessed countenance.” - F.B Meyer

“The word burden is too restrictive: it means whatever is given you, your appointed lot (hence in New English Bible, ‘your fortunes’). And the promise is not that God will carry it, but that he will sustain you.” - Derek Kidner

We are incredibly grateful for our seasoned, full-time shelter staff who work tirelessly on the front lines of hope.

Happy Monday! - Jude 1:21-23 NASB199 [21] keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. [22] And have mercy on some, who are doubting; [23] save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.

Jude (name is actually Judas) is the brother of James. A bond servant and half brother of our Lord, Jesus Christ (1:1).

Jude meant to write this letter concerning our common salvation, but the Spirit lead him to encourage the brethren to contend earnestly for the faith. (1:3)

Why was Jude giving a warning to the saints? There were men that had crept amongst them unaware. These ungodly men practice sin without shame (lewdness). These men denied God and Christ.

Verses 5-15 Speak about God's judgement of ungodly men in the past. Even Enoch prophesied about these men. You can't find this prophecy in the scriptures, but the book of Enoch had written prophecy during the times of Noah. See verses 14 & 15.

Verses 16-18 describes the method of the certain men. 👉 Jude 1:16-18 NASB1995
[16] These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage. [17] But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, [18] that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.”

Verse 19 - These men didn't have the Spirit of God in them and they cause division in the body.

Verses 20-21 - Jude wants the reader to look inward. Focus on our walk with the Lord. How do you keep yourself in the love of God? Praying in the Spirit (Romans 8:26). Live by the truth of God.

Verses 22-23 - Jude wants us to look outward. Showing compassion to others. If a person is caught up in false teachings. They should be restored. It should be done in love and wisely, not with pride. See Galatians 6:1.

Jude closes his letter with a prayer. See verses 24.
