Proud moment for Jackson State University and an even prouder moment for the Tiger Battalion!
Jackson State University has been recognized as a Gold-Level 2026-2027 Military Friendly® School, but what caught my eye immediately was the face representing this achievement—our very own Army ROTC Cadet, Buyuna Carter.
As a first-generation college student, active service member, and future leader, Cadet Carter continues to represent the very best of what it means to serve, lead, and excel. Seeing one of our cadets highlighted on the cover of this recognition is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and excellence found within the Tiger Battalion.
Congratulations to Cadet Carter and to Jackson State University for this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to see our students leading from the front and making an impact both on campus and in service to our nation.

What an incredible night at our 1st Combined Annual Spring Military Gala!
This event was truly a success and a testament to the strength of our partnership. While Jackson State and Alcorn will always carry that competitive rivalry, this gala proved that when it comes to ROTC, we are one team—committed to developing the next generation of Army leaders.
We were honored to have COL Don Hursey as our guest speaker, who delivered a powerful and impactful message that resonated with both our cadets and guests.
A special thank you to our alumni for your continued support—your presence and investment mean everything as we continue to grow.
Special thanks to Terry High School JROTC Color Guard.
Kudos to PMS MAJ Justin Smith for his leadership and vision in building and shaping this program for years to come.
Most importantly, we are extremely proud of our cadets. From planning to ex*****on, this was a cadet-led event, showcasing their ability to lead, coordinate, and execute a formal military program with excellence. And they looked amazing doing it!
This is just the beginning.

Thursday Training Highlight 🐅💪🏽
Jackson State University Army ROTC Cadets took on the Combat Water Survival Test (CWST) today—an essential commissioning requirement that challenges both physical endurance and mental toughness.
From water confidence drills to survival techniques, our cadets demonstrated discipline, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure—skills that are critical for future Army officers.

Jackson State University Army ROTC Tiger Battalion was proud to take part in an outstanding Joint Field Training Exercise (FTX) this past weekend at Camp McCain in Grenada, MS.
This large-scale training event brought together cadets from across the region, to include LSU, Southern University, Tulane, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, University of North Alabama, University of South Alabama, and UAB. The collaboration and shared training environment created an unmatched opportunity for cadets to sharpen their tactical skills, build cohesion, and learn from one another.
Throughout the FTX, cadets executed a variety of mission sets focused on leadership, teamwork, and fieldcraft—reinforcing the fundamentals required of future Army officers. Additionally, we were excited to have cadets from Grambling State University and Alabama A&M participate in additional opportunity training, further expanding the impact of this event.
Training alongside multiple programs strengthens not only our individual battalions but the future of the Army as a whole. The professionalism, motivation, and resilience displayed across the board were nothing short of impressive.
Tiger Battalion continues to lead from the front—developing disciplined, adaptive leaders ready to answer the call.
