Riley Hestwood earned a 1 up win over Bret Valkuchak at the Jackson City Golf Championship at the Country Club of Jackson. It is his third major in Jackson County. Look for a story soon ... it's a very busy day!

Here are photos from the rainy Division 2 state golf tournament. The Division 2 tournament is being played at The Meadows, at Grand Valley State University. Western High School is 10th after scoring a 324 Friday. A four-hour rain delay slowed the process. Andrew Boldt shot a 75 and Bentley C**n finished with a 76 to lead Western. Leo Nguyen of Jackson High School is 25th individually after scoring a 77.

Hestwood takes down defending champion in City Golf

There will not be a repeat champion at the Jackson City Golf Championship at the Country Club of Jackson.
Riley Hestwood took care of that with an impressive 5 & 3 win over Trevor Raymond Thursday afternoon.
Semifinal matches will be played Friday and the 36-hole final on Saturday.
Hestwood faces Brian C**n in one semifinal match Friday at the Country Club of Jackson.
Bret Valkuchak faces Zach Defrain in the other semifinal.
The 36-hole final starts Saturday morning around 8 a.m.
Hestwood shot a 34 on the front side against the defending champion. He closed out the 5 & 3 match with birdies on 14 and 15.
Brian C**n had a 2 up lead over Jamie Clark through nine holes after shooting a 34 on the front side. But Clark won 10 and 11 to tie the match. C**n parred hole Nos. 15 and 17 to close out the match 2 & 1.
Bret Valkuchak took a 4 up lead after nine holes against Mike Raymond with a 35 on the front side. He won hole Nos. 12 and 13 to close out the match 6 & 5.
Zach Defrain took a 2 up lead after three holes in his match against Luke Girodat. Girodat won Nos. 7, 12, and 13 to tie the score, but Defrain won Nos. 14 and 17 with pars.
Defrain won the Jackson City Golf Championship in 2022 at the Country Club of Jackson and C**n took the title in 2023 at Cascades Golf Course.
Hestwood and Valkuchak are major tournament winners in Jackson County.

City golf championship quarterfinals filled with major winners

Quarterfinal matchups at the Country Club of Jackson for the Jackson City Championship is filled with former major tournament winners.
Matches are expected to be play Thursday with semifinal matches Friday in the tournament.
A 36-hole final is set for Saturday at CC of J.
Defending champion Trevor Raymond will face Riley Hestwood in one quarterfinal matchup. Raymond defeated Lance Woodland 6&4 and Hestwood won 3&2 over Joey Badall.
Jamie Clark faces Brian C**n in another quarterfinal match Thursday. C**n defeated Greg Zeller 2&1 and Clark beat Kyle Bowler 6&4.
Bret Valkuchak defeated Mike Brockie 4&3 setting up a match against Mike Raymond – a 2&1 winner over Michael Boldt.
Luke Girodat earned a comeback win against Nick Henman 1 up in a round of 16 match. He faces Zach Defrain who beat Cody Lysher 6&4.
