Could you help us with some supplies? This week we are in need of eye ointment, dewormer, and syringes for the kittens!!
We are also in desperate need of gloves and potty pads to keep things clean and sanitary 👐🏻

I know we ask every week .. but baby season is not stopping anytime soon- and we are in the thick of it at the moment.
We received five more super sick bottle kittens yesterday, they are now all on antibiotics and getting around the clock care.

HLAR is not state funded like the county shelter, we strictly rely on fosters and donations to stay running. We are also the only rescue in Jackson that can take both domesticated and wildlife animals. We LOVE what we do, but we can't do it alone!

We took five trailer park kitties in to be TNRed this morning- but only four came back. 😔

One of the feral cats from the Jackson Mobile Home Park had a severe case of stomatitis. Stomatitis in cats (Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis) is a severely painful, debilitating condition where a cat's immune system overreacts to dental plaque, causing intense inflammation and ulcers in the mouth. The only solution would have been a full mouth extraction (no more teeth).
It is not possible for a feral cat to survive without teeth, and human interaction severely stressed him out.. so we had to agree with the vet recommendation and put him down while he was still under anesthesia. With how advanced the stomatitis was, the poor guy had to have been in a tremendous amount of pain. We couldn't stomach releasing him to just continue suffering, living outside full time the way he did was bad enough. ~ R.I.P Ziggs ~

CheddarCheese tested NEGATIVE for FIV/FELV thankfully so he will be able to be returned to the park he's used to, instead of having to be a solo barn kitty. Him and the others are healthy, two are mamas that won't have to birth anymore babies and the brown tabby is a young boy. All four were fixed, vaccinated and treated for parasites 💗

💗 It's $5 Friday!!! 💗

We are going to highlight one of our TNR ferals today- we call this guy ✨CheddarCheese✨

Cheddar came from the Jackson Mobile Home Park, (where SwissCheese came from) and we already suspect he also might have FIV or FELV like Swiss did.

We are looking for a sponsor for him so he can be fixed, vaccinated, treated for parasites, and given a snap test to see if he is FIV/FELV positive. Once we have the test results, it will determine whether or not he goes back to the trailer park he is used to.. or if he needs to be adopted out as a barn cat.

This is Master Splinter 🐀💗

This little dude was found living under a pizza place dumpster, a very kind lady noticed he was out of place and posted him in a lost and found group. Knowing that not too many people care about rats, we went out there to secure him! 🫶🏻

Since no owners came forward.. we are assuming he might have been a 'feeder' rat that was thrown outside. Sometimes snakes are finicky and won't always eat- and most owners dont want to care for the rat long term.

But get this.. pet stores take animals back within a certain timeframe. So if this ever happens to you, just take the rat back to the store.
Wanna know something even better though? You can teach a snake to eat humanely frozen/thawed rats. It is 100x better for them than doing live feeds, it's more humane and it significantly lessens the potential of injury to the snake!

It's ✨ Wishlist Wednesday ✨ 💗
We are in need of some essential items- could you help?

We desperately need formula powder for both kittens and raccoons, wet food for TNR/trapping and benebac to help with anyone having diarrhea or gut issues 🫶🏻

Having these items allows us to stay steady with intakes, because truth is.. we can't intake babies anymore if we can't keep these items in stock. Tiny babies need around the clock care, and we are absolutely blowing through formula, gloves and syringes. Please take a peep at our wishlist if you can♥️

Despite the seemingly constant feeds, we are also still doing TNR. The wait list is so long.. how could we stop? We have a handful of kitties getting fixed this upcoming week- and most of them are mamas that don't deserve to have any more babies outside.

Smolder and Soot are healthy and finally put on enough weight to be transferred!!! So this morning they went over to the Humane Society of Huron Valley to finish their vetting so they can be adopted! ♥️

These two kittens came from Sun Valley yesterday, and one has a VERY bad eye infection- bad enough it might need to be removed if antibiotics and eye meds don't help. We hope this is not the case and she can make a full recovery, if she was left much longer the infection probably would have killed her. Not if we can help it though!

"If you're always available how is it that your mailbox is full and nobody is answering?"

Every single rescuer is tired and barely hanging on right now. We don't sit around on our phones and just wait for you to call us, and we don't have to. We will answer what we can and when we can. Sometimes I set my phone down and get so caught up in tasks I can't even remember where I set it.

We are busy. We have lives to save. Even if YOU yourself do not see it. Busy we remain. We are also human.

If you genuinely need help? Being disrespectful to the people willing to help; isn't going to get you anywhere.
Some days are dark days in rescue, and you never know when a rescuer is having one of those days.

I just lost my second tiny baby of the year, and I was at the school with my daughter for her Field Day.. then I got another text (over a week after the first rude interaction) "I didn't intend to call again"

Clearly it wasn't an urgent situation then!

HLAR is a VERY small foster-based rescue, we are not a state funded shelter, we don't have a building, and yet we still work really hard so we can make a difference for the animals in our area. But we CAN'T rescue them all. It's not possible.

✨We most definitely do NOT have to tolerate human bully behavior or even subtle/passive aggression in our inboxes.✨

All of us rescuers are struggling with baby season right now, support your local rescues if you're able- even if it's something small from their wishlist, sharing their posts, or telling them they are doing great. Its ALL noticed and its ALL appreciated. ♥️

We took this girl on a whim yesterday after seeing a picture of her in a box covered in her own f***s.. the finder had her for two whole days before reaching out, she had a gnarly open injury on her arm, she was ice cold and very tiny.

Please understand if a baby is injured, they need help as soon as possible - never wait if they have a severe injury. Those two days had to have been agonizing for such a small baby.

Thanks to the amazing Barb, we had more incubators and some supplies arrive shortly after getting her so we got her snuggled into her own little space to warm up.

We were able to keep her somewhat comfortable through the night, gave sub q fluids, nutrients and glucose drops.. but sadly - she passed around noon.

Rest in peace little one, you were loved. 💔
