A wagging tail, approaching someone, licking, jumping, or staying close doesn’t automatically mean a dog is comfortable.
Dogs can approach while feeling conflicted. They can wag their tails while stressed. They can freeze while completely overwhelmed. And they can tolerate something without actually enjoying it.
We often interpret dog behavior through a human lens instead of learning what they’re actually communicating.
Friendly and comfortable are not always the same thing.
Before you let your dog rush up to another dog, person, or child because “he’s friendly,” pause and look at the whole dog. 🐾

…. No but really, it’s a gift to be a dog trainer. It’s something that I am grateful to do on the daily and even more thankful for the years of knowledge I’ve been able to soak in.
Every dog teaches me something new, and getting to help people better understand their dogs is something I’ll never take for granted. 🐾🧡

Where it all started… 🦴
Years ago, when my own dog was giving me a serious run for my patience, I never could’ve imagined where it would lead me.
It was during his own K-9 training that I fell in love with dog training as a whole. What started as a challenge with my own dog turned into a passion that has continued to grow ever since.
Looking back at these early days, it’s pretty amazing to see just how far it all came and to see On Point K-9 come to life with each dog I get to train. 🐾❤️

🐾 Pup Highlight Tuesday! 🐾
Meet Otis! 🐶❤️
Otis is an 8-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog with the happiest, most carefree personality. His owners had one big goal for him: to be able to safely roam off-leash on their property up north with their other dogs, with a solid recall to bring him back when needed.
Otis also came with a little chewing habit 😂 So, along with working on recall, we worked on place and taught his owners that when he can’t be actively supervised, he shouldn’t be running around the house looking for something to chew — he should be on his place.
And guess what?! We got him OFF LEASH! 🎉🐾
