The USCCB is hiring a new Assistant Director for Ministries with Youth & Young Adults! As you know, the previous Assistant Director, Dr. Maria Parker, has moved onto another role at the USCCB, so our Secretariat has revised and is now posting the new Assistant Director role through our USCCB Human Resources page:
https://www.irecruit-us.com/index.php?OrgID=I20121215&RequestID=17901932996ab42e931b6964758&olnew=1&slnew=35&navpg=listings
This position will now encompass the Church’s ministries with youth and with young adults and will have a significant role in the planning of the next World Youth Day. The individual in this position will serve as the USCCB staff liaison to NFCYM, LaRED, NIMYA, and Catholic Scouting America, and, as in the past, will work in close collaboration with CCMA and other organizations, apostolates, and movements which engage young people. Engagement with local, diocesan, and national leaders in these ministerial areas is also a major part of the job. And whoever is hired will work hand-in-hand with me (and report to me) as the Associate Director for the Laity within the LMFLY Secretariat.”

Saint Peter Claver is a powerful role model for scouts because he practiced service, courage, compassion, respect, perseverance, teamwork, and faith in action. He dedicated his life to defending people who were being treated unjustly and to restoring their sense of human dignity. He served people who were suffering.
Saint Peter Claver ministered in Cartagena, Colombia, where enslaved Africans were brought under terrible conditions. He went to meet them with food, medicine, and practical assistance. He also cared for the sick, visited prisoners, and served other people who were poor or marginalized.
This reflects the Scout commitment to help others. Scouts can imitate him by:
• Serving at food pantries or shelters
• Visiting the sick or elderly
• Helping someone who is lonely or excluded
• Taking responsibility for difficult service projects
• Offering practical help before giving advice
Saint Peter understood that love must be expressed through concrete action.
He can inspire scouts to ask three questions:
1. Who is being ignored or treated unfairly?
2. What practical help can I provide?
3. Will I continue doing what is right even if it is difficult or unpopular?

Religious Activities are a great way to learn more about our Catholic faith through the lives of Saints like Saint Teresa of Calcutta who made service the center of her life.
Mother Teresa began listening to God when she was a young girl, when she was very involved in her parish in what is now North Macedonia. She listened to God when she travelled hundreds of miles to join a religious order for women in Ireland when she was 18. Then, she listened to the Reverend Mother of her order and went to India to teach. While on retreat, she really listened to God speaking to her – and it would change her life.
Jesus taught, “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant” (Mk 10:43). Saint Teresa lived this teaching by dedicating herself to people who were poor, sick, abandoned, or forgotten. Pope John Paul II described her as someone who chose not only to be among the least, but to become “the servant of the least.”
Saint Teresa of Calcutta is a strong role model for scouts because she lived the values of service, compassion, courage, leadership, perseverance, and respect for every person. Her life shows that even small acts of kindness can become a powerful witness to God’s love. She can inspire scouts to ask three questions:
• Who is being overlooked?
• What practical help can I offer?
• Can I do this with love, even if no one notices?
