𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐞

IMPD’s Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) arrested a 34-year-old male for his alleged role in the July 2025 overdose death of 68-year-old Daniel Patterson.

On July 28, 2025, IMPD Southeast District officers responded to a storage facility in the 7000 block of Company Drive to check the welfare of a male in a pickup truck. When officers arrived, they found Mr. Patterson deceased in the driver’s seat of the truck. Autopsy and toxicology results later confirmed his death was caused by an overdose.

Following these findings, the ODTF stepped in to continue the investigation. Through various investigative methods, detectives identified the person they believe to be responsible for supplying the narcotics that led to Patterson’s death.

Detectives submitted their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), and on July 23, 2026, the MCPO filed one count of dealing a controlled substance resulting in death, a level 1 felony. On July 30, 2026, IMPD detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, located and arrested the suspect.

An arrest and a charge are accusations, and the arrested male is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Earlier this week, a community tip led investigators to an address where they located the mother of the newborn baby. The mother has received medical treatment, and the baby remains at the hospital in stable condition. Investigators also identified an adult male who was arrested on the preliminary charge of sexual misconduct with a minor. Investigators are still working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

We are grateful to the community members who have come forward so far to share information with us. 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐃 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝

On Friday, July 24, before 11:30 p.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to Lace Bark Ln and Long Wharf Dr to check the welfare of a child. A newborn baby was found in the tree line near a trail.

The baby was transported to Riley Hospital For Children and thankfully is in stable condition.

Detectives are deeply concerned for the mother, who may need urgent medical attention. We want to ensure she is safe and receives care.

We are asking anyone with information about the mother, the baby, or what occurred to please come forward. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

This situation is a difficult reminder of the challenges many mothers and families face. IMPD encourages anyone in need to reach out for help and use available community resources.

Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows a person to safely and anonymously surrender an unwanted infant without fear of arrest or prosecution. More information on this law can be found here or here.

𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗗 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲

On May 6, 2023, IMPD North District officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Ruckle Street on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found 27-year-old Darian Wiley and 24-year-old Olivia Brown with gunshot wounds. Both of the victims died at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the scene and began a complex investigation that spanned witness interviews and detailed forensic analysis.

After two years, the IMPD Unsolved Homicide Unit took over the investigation. Detectives pieced together valuable information and were able to identify the suspect, later found to be incarcerated for unrelated charges at the Branchville Correctional Facility. In July of 2026, detectives presented their new findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), who later filed formal charges for two counts of murder, three counts of aggravated battery, robbery, and criminal recklessness against the 24-year-old male suspect.

This investigation highlights the IMPD’s relentless commitment to seeking justice - no matter how long it takes. By revisiting evidence, tying forensic findings to the suspect, and using various investigative perspectives to ask and answer critical questions, detectives secured formal charges in this tragic case. Their persistence helped move this case forward for two grieving families.
