Whatever your product, packaging counts, both in appeal and how practical it is. For instance, Meijer's True Goodness organic eggs are appealing, but their packaging is full of harsh, sharp edges that immediately tear grocery bags, making them unfeasible.

The obsession with being unique or different is often our biggest obstacle to success. It keeps projects from happening and people often forgo quality, efficiency, and the other elements necessary for a great product just to be "unique." This happens with creatives of all kinds, along with executives, marketing departments, etc.

Most of us won't reinvent the wheel - and that's fine. We're going to look similar to others, but over time, our individual style will come through. Meanwhile, as graphic designer legend Paul Rand said -

“Don’t try to be original. Just try to be good.”
