Construction spending may be cooling, but the picture isn't the same everywhere.

The latest U.S. Census Bureau data shows total construction spending declined 0.5% in July and was 3.8% below a year earlier.

One notable exception: private nonresidential construction increased 0.4% for the month, reaching an annualized $755.2 billion.

For architecture and engineering firms, it's a reminder that the headline number doesn't always tell the whole story about where project activity is moving.
