Swamp Creature vs. Scandal Magnet: Why Conservative Delegates Are Holding Their Noses for Diego Morales By Hoosier Enquirer Staff | June 7, 2026Indianapolis, Indiana — As Indiana GOP delegates gear up for the chaotic June 20 state convention in Fort Wayne, the Secretary of State race has turned into a true conservative nightmare. Happy Birthday Donna Kavanagh!
Ryan Mears is dodging accountability again. In today's press conference on the murder of Brett Scrogham — a 23-year-old IU grad gunned down in a downtown parking garage by a 14-year-old black boy— Prosecutor Mears wasted no time blaming "guns" for the tragedy. Classic move.
But when a reporter pressed him on parental responsibility, Mears agreed... only to clam up when asked point-blank: "Is it the gun's fault that Mr. Scrogham is dead?" Suddenly he didn't want to "get into a larger issue." Funny how the gun is the villain until someone points out it didn't load itself, sneak out, or pull its own trigger. Mears isn't just avoiding tough questions on parents — he's shifting blame to deflect from his own failures as Prosecutor.
Marion County has seen soft-on-crime policies, revolving-door justice, and excuses for youth violence while families like Scrogham's bury their loved ones. Instead of owning the breakdowns in prosecution, enforcement, and family accountability that let a 14-year-old with a gun roam free, he pivots to inanimate objects. Parents have a duty to raise responsible kids. Prosecutors have a duty to keep violent offenders off the streets and demand real consequences.
Mears is failing. Indianapolis deserves better than gun-control talking points and evasion. Time to hold adults accountable — starting with the ones in charge.

BREAKING: Disgrace Democrat Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears has filed murder charges in Indianapolis Indiana against the 14-year-old black boy arrested in the killing of 23-year-old Brett Scrogham.
The teen now faces charges of murder, felony murder, attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, and dangerous possession of a firearm.
Per Indiana law, the case was initially filed in juvenile court. Prosecutors have already filed a petition to waive the teen into adult court, where a judge will make the final decision.
According to Mears, the 14-year-old black boy had no prior criminal history.
Prosecutor Ryan Mears' Statement:
"At the center of this case is a family living through an unimaginable loss. The outpouring of love for Brett Scrogham speaks to the impact he had on his friends, family, and community.
A 14-year-old is alleged to have made a tragic and devastating decision to kill someone with a firearm. Prior to this incident, this 14-year-old had no involvement with the criminal justice system. Despite that, elected officials from outside Marion County rushed to suggest that this case supports the false narrative of a broader pattern involving repeat violent offenders. That is not true.
We will continue working to uncover the facts and seek justice for Brett and his family by being tough on crime, and smart on justice.
That must include a serious conversation about how and why fi****ms continue to find their way into the hands of young people. Until we address the ease with which children and teenagers can access guns, we will continue to see families devastated by preventable acts of violence."
Hoosier Enquirer has been relentless in demanding accountability in this case — and our pressure helped force murder charges against this 14-year-old black boy who killed a 23 year old college graduate in Downtown Indy. But this is only the beginning.
It's time for real consequences. Governor Mike Braun must immediately call the Indiana State Legislature back into special session after July to impeach and remove Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. Hoosiers deserve a top prosecutor who prioritizes public safety over excuses — not one who lectures about guns while violent crime ravages our communities.
Justice for Brett Scrogham and his family demands adult consequences for violent offenders, no matter their age. Full transparency. No more soft-on-crime games.
We’re not stopping. Stay tuned to Hoosier Enquirer for updates.

We told our donors and partners from the beginning we report the TRUTH.
