Got the opportunity to cover Nils Jiptner for Hawkins Management Group. I'd never been to Feinstein's in Hotel Carmichael. Really classy venue.

Nils (pronounced Neels) moved to L.A. in the mid-80s. He started doing sessions as a rhythm guitarist. Over the years, he has worked with greats like George Clinton and the Temptations, and he co-wrote "Keep Rollin'" on Benson's 1998 album Standing Together, and the guitar legend returned the favor by recording a duet with Nils on Nils' 1998 debut CD Blue Planet; His solo career really took off in 2005 when his hit song "Pacific Coast Highway" stayed at #1 on the Radio chart for 11 weeks and was named by Billboard as the most heavily played track in the smooth jazz format over the past 15 years with over 30,000 spins. Several #1 Hits followed and established Nils as one of the driving forces in Contemporary Jazz today.
