Not 1 More Project
We advocate for positive black maternal health experiences and work to prevent black maternal mortality.
Our programs, initiatives, events and services benefit women, infants, families and communities in Central Indiana.
Value-based care ...
Right care
Right time
Right price
Right place
Right context
We need the public health AND community-based voice in the model!
Working on public policy is not for the faint of heart ...
And working on Social Policy (Social Contract) is not separate from that work. It IS the work!
Know The Codes!
Having the right people at the public health planning process ...
A community-based organization imperative.
Stealing from the late Rep. Bill Crawford,
If the "community is not at the table, we are on the menu!"
No solutions for us, without us!
Things one notices at conferences like APHA and IACP:
APHA
* Administrators, Researchers, and Practioners all speak entirely different languages ...
* Public Health is broad and impacts every aspect of life ...
* Women must outnumber men in this space (unscientific observation) ...
* "I have no disclosures or conflicts of interests to share at this time" is a thing ...
* I love how presenters are critically aware of and responsible for language and the degree certain language may trigger or be traumatizing to others. I have learned that I'm not that careful.
I am also so impressed to be in the midst of 40K+ public health professionals and have heard my mother's name (Velvet Miller) several times. I am proud to be "Dr. Miller's son!"
IACP
* The history of policing in America still shapes the approach
* Public Service vs Law Enforcement (Context is decisive)
* Relationships Matter: Engagement is different than Outreach
* Community Policing is more than checking "Community Engagement" boxes.
* Peelian Principles: Community are the Police, and the Police are the Community.
The knowledge gained by attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and the American Public Health Association Conference will impact the communities I serve ...
These conferences will inform the following work:
* Violence and Police/Community Relations
(Know The Codes, Peelian Community Solutions/CRT)
* Maternal and Child Health
(Not 1 More)
* Community and Legacy Development
(Bryant, Miller, Levy and Bryant Legacy Village)
* Overdose and SUD in Marion County
(Marion County Public Health Department)
Boston and Minneapolis owe me nothing.

Third Annual Fatherhood Series
Boom!
Tremendous turnout ...
Tremendous message ...
Changing the things we no longer accept!
The Streetlights Are On/Know The Codes ...
Over the last 2 weeks, our community has witnessed multiple children killed by gun violence.
Tonight (and for the next week), we invite my ENTIRE TIMELINE to get "On Code" and do the following:
* check on the mental health of your children
* know where your guns are and be sure they are secure
* know who your children are around and be sure they are "out of the way!"
* if you harbor someone who has killed an innocent, you and they are the problem
* do not blame the children or speak of them as "at risk!" Instead ... love on them without judgment and coach them (and yourself) about what is going on out here
* change the game with your words AND actions
If you are in the game, you know what it is and accept "the code" ... but these babies are not in the game and should be off limits.
Post/Share this ...
Make your own "On Code" post ...
Make it a daily tradition to check on your people and keep the innocent out of way ...
Do something different ... don't just sit there and be a spectator.
NOT 1 MORE child lost to gun violence!!!!!
