Early Monday, a magnitude 5.8 (this is a preliminary number) earthquake rattled Puerto Rico’s southern coast just off Isla de Mona, shaking the island around 6:32 a.m. local time. The temblor triggered landslides, collapsed portions of the famed Punta Ventana rock arch, and damaged homes in Guánica and Guayanilla . The quake also knocked out power across much of Puerto Rico, with hundreds of thousands left in the dark as grids automatically shut down for safety . While no fatalities were reportd, the USGS warns that aftershocks could persist—and power restoration may take several days amid ongoing seismic activity .
