With DeepSeek’s release last Monday, the AI world has been “shook” by the model’s ability to train with such a small budget and lower power chips (Nvidia H800’s). This ability to adapt, be nimble, and create something just as powerful (and possibly even better than ChatGPT, DeepMind, etc.) is a testament to how rapidly this technology is changing. In terms of national security - while we may not be able to adopt DeepSeek’s open-source architecture on many platforms - there are many other lessons we can learn from this development.

China's BeiDou GNSS is a threat to US leverage during wartime, and a giant national security risk when emerging countries are adopting both Chinese 5G and GNSS technologies. There has to be a greater emphasis placed on US GPS advancement as well as offering competing technologies to foreign countries - since they risk being controlled by the CCP's political ambitions and mass surveillance state.
