Seventeen years ago today, Kristan and I opened K Bella.

She runs everything inside the salon. I handle all of our marketing. That has been the arrangement since 2009, and the website has always been my responsibility.

Two weeks ago the new one went live, and the part I'm proudest of is the part you can't see by looking at it.

A stylist finishes a client, takes a photo, and uploads it from their phone. That single upload does all of this: the photo gets straightened and cropped, captioned and tagged, then published to the website - the homepage, the page for that service, the before-and-after wall, and that stylist's own bio. The same photo goes up on the TVs around the salon. And it posts to our Facebook and Instagram. One upload, and nobody has to remember to do anything else with it.

When a client leaves a Google review, it syncs in on its own. The site reads it, works out which stylist it's about and which service it describes, and files it onto that stylist's page, that service's page, and the review wall. When it isn't confident, it sets the review aside for me to check instead of guessing.

Then the piece I spent the most time on. There are 11 forms on this site. Every submission is captured into a tracker, routed automatically to whoever should handle it, and emailed to that person with a one-click link straight to the lead. They log what actually happened - called, booked, left a voicemail, not a fit - and it keeps a running history of who did what and when. Anything sitting too long surfaces as overdue. Nothing quietly falls through, which is the thing that genuinely costs a salon money.

Everything connects to everything. Photos, reviews, specials, FAQs, articles and aftercare guides all tie back to our people and our services. Enter something once and it shows up everywhere it belongs.

Here is why I built it that way, and it isn't so the site can be left alone. I'm in it constantly, and it will keep getting articles, new work and steady optimization for as long as we're open. I automated the upkeep so my time goes into making it better instead of just keeping it current.

Seventeen years in, that's the difference between a website that ages and one that compounds.

A new website for Rudolph Technology Associates, a managed IT firm serving small businesses around Ann Arbor and the broader Midwest.

The previous site undersold the team. The new one leads with clarity: services, fit, trust signals, and an easy path to a first call. Built mobile-first on ProcessWire. Fast load, structured data, and an integrated articles section for ongoing technical content.

A custom staff app, built alongside K Bella's salon website in Brighton, MI.

Salons run on a hundred small coordination tasks - scheduling, tips, supply tracking, team comms, training - and most patch it together with group chats and sticky notes. K Bella wanted something better, so I built it for them.

The portal is login-gated, mobile-first, and built on ProcessWire alongside their public site. Both share the same backend, so updates in one place flow everywhere.
