A new experimental stem cell therapy for people with MSA–P (Parkinsonian type) has been approved by regulators in the United States and China to begin clinical trials. The therapy aims to replace or repair damaged brain cells that are lost in the disease, which could potentially improve symptoms. While this treatment is still in the early testing stages (Phase 1), these trials are an important step toward developing new treatments for MSA.

This study looked at a structure in the brain called the choroid plexus, which helps produce and regulate the fluid around the brain. Researchers found that people with MSA tend to have a smaller choroid plexus, which was linked to greater brain shrinkage and reduced brain activity. Further research could help determine whether changes in this structure may serve as a biomarker for disease progression in MSA.
