Making a Difference Through Sport: Why I Entered the Youth Athlete of the Year Competition
When I decided to enter the Youth Athlete of the Year competition, it wasn’t just about recognition or personal achievement — it was about something much bigger. This competition is more than an opportunity to celebrate young athletes; it’s a charitable event that supports the V Cancer Foundation, an organization committed to raising awareness and funding for cancer research and support services.
For me and my family, the cause is deeply personal.
In 2024, my sister lost her best friend to childhood cancer, (Katelyn Antonia Morales of Howell NJ) a young life taken far too soon. Watching her go through that pain, and seeing how it affected everyone who loved this person, left a lasting impact on all of us. It was a heartbreaking reminder that cancer doesn't care about age, dreams, or potential. It can touch anyone, and when it does, it leaves a permanent mark.
That’s why I felt compelled to be part of something that’s actively working to make a difference. Through this competition, I can not only represent the values of hard work, resilience, and dedication that come with being an athlete — but also use my voice and platform to raise awareness for a cause that desperately needs attention.
Being involved in sports has always taught me the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and giving back. Entering this competition is my way of honoring the memory of the friend my sister lost, and supporting others who are still fighting, surviving, or grieving. It’s about using what I love — athletics — to help fund research, provide support, and inspire change.
My goal is simple: to help save lives by supporting the mission of the V Cancer Foundation. If sharing my story and participating in this competition can make even the smallest difference, then it’s worth every moment.
