Why is AIR the first word in AIR CONDITIONING, yet the last thing people look at on the system? Air conditioning requires more ducting than a stand alone heating system. Your system should have 200 square inches per ton of return air AND 6 sq in of return air duct for EACH 1000 BTU. Example: 3 Tons (36,000 BTU’s) 20x30 grille (600 sq in) and 6x36 =216 sq in. Closest flex duct size is 18 inches Pi•R2 or 9x9x3.14= 254.34 sq. In.
