As a Black woman with AuDHD, learning about masking helped me understand myself—and it changed the way I see the students and families I serve.

Our Black children are often expected to “act right” before anyone asks why they’re struggling. Add neurodivergence to the mix, and some of our babies are carrying the weight of navigating two sets of expectations at once.

Before we label a child as disrespectful or defiant, let’s get curious.

What are they trying to communicate? 🤎

Dear Special Needs Fathers,

We see you.

The quiet strength.
The steady hands.
The one who simply makes things happen.

We see you carrying the expectations the world places on men—to provide, to protect, to fix.

And then life handed you a child who needed more.

More appointments.
More advocacy.
More patience.
More strength.

We see the long workdays followed by longer nights.

We see you learning how to run a feeding pump,

We see you loading wheelchairs, carrying children when the world isn't accessible enough, and refusing to let them miss out.

We see the pharmacy runs, the late-night store trips, the heavy lifting, the repairs, the problem-solving, and the countless small things that keep this life moving.

As fathers, many of you are wired to protect.

But how do you protect your child from something you cannot fight?

How do you fix something that cannot simply be fixed?

You can't.

And so you learn to fight your own instincts instead.

You learn to live beside uncertainty. You learn to adapt. You learn to carry what cannot be changed.

You also had to let go of the version of fatherhood you once imagined.

You had to redraw the map.

And that's hard.

So very hard.

Some days it may feel like your sacrifices go unnoticed.

They don't.

You are often the foundation beneath this life we've built.

You may not always be the loudest voice or the most visible one, but your presence changes everything.

A loving father is irreplaceable.

A loving partner is immeasurable.

While you're making the extra stop, carrying the bags, fixing the equipment, picking up dinner, driving to appointments, or simply showing up again tomorrow—

We see you.

We need you.

We appreciate you.

In a world that often celebrates good mothers, I think it's important that we also celebrate the good fathers.

The ones who stay. The ones who learn. The ones who carry. The ones who love.

You make our families stronger, steadier, and safer and we thank you.

Happy Father’s Day.

Autism is still surrounded by so many misconceptions—and those myths can impact how children are supported at school, at home, and in the community.

Every autistic child is different. Every child deserves understanding, support, and the opportunity to succeed.

Let’s stop assuming and start listening.

Sat in on the Success Panel at the Summerhouse Career Launchpad and it was powerful! 🤯

Hearing directly from individuals with disabilities about their work experiences and advice? Necessary.

Left with new connections, local Houston resources, and a reminder of why inclusive opportunities matter.

Thank you for a great event

Autism awareness is a start—but it’s not the goal.

Understanding. Inclusion. Advocacy.
That’s what actually changes outcomes.

For families, the challenge is often not autism—
it’s navigating systems that weren’t built with their child in mind.

This month, let’s shift the focus.

✨ Listen to autistic voices
✨ Ask better questions
✨ Advocate for real support

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

Follow for clarity, advocacy tips, and real support in special education.

Modifications don’t stop growth… they redefine what growth looks like.” 👀

I get this question a lot.

Accommodations support how a student learns.
Modifications adjust what they’re expected to learn.

And for some students, especially those with significant learning needs,
grade-level content without adjustments isn’t access—it’s frustration.

Modifications can:
✔️ Meet students where they are
✔️ Build foundational skills
✔️ Create real, measurable progress

Growth still happens—it just may look different than traditional grade-level expectations.

Save this if you’ve ever been confused about accommodations vs modifications 📌

If the IEP goals aren’t working… it’s not always your child 👀
Sometimes the goal itself is the problem.

Vague goals = vague progress.
Clear goals = real support.
