Today, we celebrate Juneteenth — a day of freedom, resilience, and the enduring strength of Black communities.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a powerful reminder that freedom is not just a moment in history, but a continuous journey toward equity, justice, and opportunity for all.

At Impulse Houston, we honor the Black leaders, advocates, artists, educators, and changemakers who have shaped our communities and continue to inspire progress every day. We recognize the importance of creating spaces where Black LGBTQ+ individuals are seen, valued, celebrated, and empowered.

As we commemorate this day, let us reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before us, celebrate how far we’ve come, and recommit ourselves to building a future where everyone can live authentically, safely, and freely.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Impulse Houston.

Today marks 10 years since the tragedy at Pulse Nightclub.

We remember the 49 lives taken, honor the survivors, and stand with the families, friends, and communities forever impacted by that day.

Their legacy lives on through our commitment to building safer spaces, creating meaningful connections, and celebrating the beauty and resilience of our LGBTQ+ community.

Never Forgotten. Always Remembered. 🕯️🏳️‍🌈❤️

Some events are measured by attendance.

Others are measured by IMPACT!

On June 7, our community came together for something bigger than a dinner.

Transcendent Pride: Power in Every Identity was a space where Butch Queens, Trans leaders, advocates, allies, and community organizations gathered with a shared purpose—to listen, learn, heal, connect, and move forward together.

In a time when visibility matters more than ever, this gathering reminded us that our strength is not found in our differences, but in our willingness to stand together.

To every attendee, speaker, volunteer, advocate, and community partner—thank you for investing in this moment and in each other.

Special thanks to:
💙 FLUX
💙 AHF
💙 BLACC
💙 Allies in Hope

💙 Normal Anomaly

Because of you, meaningful conversations were had. New connections were formed. Partnerships were strengthened. And our collective commitment to equity, visibility, and empowerment became even stronger.

This wasn’t the end of a conversation—it was the continuation of a movement.

Houston, thank you for showing up. Thank you for standing together. Thank you for helping us create a future where every identity is seen, valued, and celebrated.

💙 Great Times. Greater Impact.

Through his work in public health, advocacy, and community engagement, he has helped break stigma, uplift voices, and create pathways for healthier and stronger communities.

Next weekend Impulse Htx is closing out Pride Weekend, we’re doing it with purpose, unity, and community.

Impulse Group Houston“The Butch Queen & Trans Alignment Dinner” an evening dedicated to bringing organizations together, amplifying voices, addressing disparities, and creating pathways for healing, collaboration, and forward movement.

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN INVITE-ONLY ORGANIZATIONAL EVENT ⚠️

This event was specifically designed for LGBTQ+ community organizations, leaders, advocates, and stakeholders to come together in a shared space of dialogue, education, and partnership.

📧 All invited LGBTQ+ organizations have already received invitations via email. Registration is now officially closed.

However, if your organization believes it should have been included, has concerns, or would like to be considered for future collaborations and community initiatives, please contact the President of Impulse Group Houston directly.

This gathering is about more than a dinner. It is about:

✨ Bringing greater unity across our LGBTQ+ community
✨ Strengthening relationships between organizations and community leaders
✨ Supporting and engaging transgender women through the work of FLUX
✨ Sharing resources, experiences, and opportunities for collaboration
✨ Discussing what organizations are currently doing, what they would like to see improved in the community, and what support they need from one another
✨ Creating actionable solutions that benefit our entire community

Throughout the evening, attendees will experience performances, community dialogue, advocacy moments, resource sharing, networking opportunities, and a special spoken word presentation by Wendell King.

Together, we will discuss how we can better serve our communities, increase visibility, strengthen advocacy efforts, and ensure that no organization is doing this work alone.

As Pride Month comes to a close, let’s end the weekend with intention, impact, and a commitment to moving our community forward—together.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) applauds the Government of Zambia for increasing its health budget allocation from 7% in 2021 to 12% today, an effort that reflects growing political commitment to strengthen national health systems and secure long-term sustainability. AHF also commends continental efforts by African presidents and regional institutions for driving urgent action on key public health priorities.

These decisive moves by African governments and institutions come at a time when the continent’s health sector is under immense pressure from a sharp 70% decline in Official Development Assistance between 2021 and 2025 and rising debt burdens, with countries expected to service $81 billion of debt by this year.

Ghana’s President John Mahama recently hosted the African Health Sovereignty Summit, which galvanized political will to reduce foreign aid dependency, promote health security and self-reliance, and position Africa as an equal partner in global health governance. Leadership by African presidents has been instrumental in championing vital health priorities to create a stronger, more resilient, and more independent health system for Africa:

•Ghana President John Mahama: health sovereignty
•Kenya President William Ruto: regional production
•Nigeria President Bola Tinubu: health workforce
•Rwanda President Paul Kagame: health financing
•South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa: pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response
•Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema: cholera response

Additionally, institutions such as the African Union (AU), Africa CDC, and AU Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) are working with governments and partners to mobilize funding and expand regional vaccine and medical commodity production, with progress already visible in local manufacturing, financing, regulatory frameworks, and regional markets.

Earlier this year, the Africa CDC launched the “Africa’s Health Financing in a New Era” strategy, and in June, together with the AU, Africa Medicines Agency, African Continental Free Trade Area, and AUDA-NEPAD, among others, established a team to ensure policy coherence, improve efficiency, and advance a unified position on policy implementation.

“The leadership emerging at national and regional levels across Africa shows how governments and institutions can transform global health by moving from a donor-recipient model to sovereignty and shared ownership, which AHF has always supported,” said AHF Executive Vice President Dr. Penninah Iutung. “Robust regional systems foster South-South cooperation, pooled procurement, and greater leverage in global negotiations, while enabling coordinated responses and data sharing. We encourage governments and partners to continue investing in regional approaches, adopting innovative financing, such as debt swaps and leveraging support from multilateral development banks, and strengthening cross-border collaboration to secure a more equitable and sustainable health future.”
