Vietnam to Require Mandatory Health Declarations for International Travelers from July 1

Starting July 1, 2026, Vietnam will require all inbound, outbound, and transit travelers to submit health declarations under new regulations aimed at strengthening disease prevention and border health control.

The new rule is outlined in Government Decree No. 165, which provides guidance on implementing provisions of Vietnam’s Law on Disease Prevention.

🩺 Key points travelers should know:

• Health declarations will be mandatory for travelers entering, leaving, or transiting through Vietnam when required by the Ministry of Health.

• Forms can be completed online or on paper and will be available in both Vietnamese and English.

• Travelers must submit their health declaration within 7 days before their trip.

• Depending on the disease situation, authorities may also request proof of vaccination or other preventive health documents.

• Health quarantine officers will conduct health monitoring at border gates, including temperature screening and observation for signs of infectious diseases.

If a traveler is identified as a suspected infectious disease case, authorities may conduct additional inspections, including travel history reviews and health interviews.

The Ministry of Health will determine when health declarations are required based on global disease developments and the risk of transmission into Vietnam.

The Law on Disease Prevention also takes effect on July 1, extending health quarantine measures to travelers, transportation vehicles, imported and exported goods, and other items crossing Vietnam’s borders.

This includes preventing those who owe substantial amounts of court-ordered child support from neglecting their legal and moral obligations to their children.

U.S. law requires Americans to comply with child support obligations in order to receive a U.S. passport and allows the Department of State to revoke the passport of an individual who owes more than $2,500 in child support. Under the Trump Administration, the Department of State is coordinating with the Department of Health and Human Services on an unprecedented scale to revoke the passports of Americans who have racked up significant outstanding child support debt. This action supports the welfare of American children by exacting real consequences for child support delinquency under existing federal law.

Any American with significant child support debt should arrange payment to the relevant state or states now to prevent passport revocation. Once a passport is revoked, it may no longer be used for travel. Eligibility for a new passport will only be restored after child support debt is paid to the relevant state child support enforcement agency and the individual is no longer delinquent according to HHS records.
