Ultimate Clutter Buster
Our stuff robs us of a rich life by requiring that we store, clean, use, and maintain it. Once gone, life enlarges. Less stuff = more life!
Year end usually means the beginning of spring cleaning. Who wants to put all these decorations away anyway?
Plus, where will all this NEW stuff go? Hence we see long lines at Goodwill and other donation sites.

Canadian professor of psychology and clinical psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson relates how cleaning up your room is a metaphor for cleaning up your life.

Antiques, heirlooms, sentimental items, upscale items...all with nowhere to go, and overwhelming thrift stores. Past generations asked their parents for any furniture they could spare to furnish their first apartments. Now they say "no thanks". A great reason to stop purchasing now.
Goodwill is 'overrun' with stuff millennials and Gen Xers refuse to take from their parents, who pay up to $5,000 to get rid of it Younger adult generations won't take their aging parents' stuff, reports The New York Times. Some of these parents are paying thousands of dollars for professional help downsizing. The resistance among grown children could be financial - or ideological. No one wants the family china. At least, not t...
They say our surroundings (desk, offices, kitchen counters, etc.) are our minds made visible. I believe that is only true if clutter lasts. Sometimes we are just too busy for now. But if it stays when things slow down, you have a problem. Don't let yourself get comfortable with a mess. It will only get worse.

Once you are successful and have had everything your heart desires, you realize it doesn't satisfy you. Living free of the trappings of stuff and moving lithely around the world becomes your source of joy.

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate, so we can buy s**t we don't need." Tyler Durden (Fight Club).
So toss the catalogs that come in, mute and turn away from commercials, ignore the billboards. Advertising creates wants that didn't exist before the seed was planted. Don't let it take root in you.

if clothes are your problem, or one of your problem areas, maybe this blog post will inspire you. What you are left with is the best stuff, and so you always feel like a million bucks. And when you feel like that, you think you can take on the world. And so you DO!
Why I Got Rid of My Wardrobe This spring I got rid of my entire wardrobe. I did it because I have been wearing yoga pants as clothes for far longer than I like to admit--even before I had a baby. On a daily basis I actually have a delusion that I am going to do yoga. Due to the lack of…

An interesting idea about gifting, owning, giving. I would only want to be a giver, not a receiver, but lots to love about this concept.

I think many of us have already noticed this. We should remember our parents did the same thing to us. I usually graciously accepted their stuff only to turn around and donate to Goodwill when they weren't looking.
Millennials nix their parents’ treasures Whether becoming empty nesters, downsizing or just finally embracing the decluttering movement, boomers are taking a good close look at the things they have spent their life collecting.
So the kids moved out and left a bunch of stuff behind. I have been keeping for them. Why???? If they selected what to take and what to leave, why do I think they ever want it in the future.
Today, this stuff leaves. Another example of broken thinking.

If no eyeglass donation bins are near you, probably better to toss them. I know...it's sad.
But see next post if you have a Lion's Club in your town.
Recycling Eyeglasses Is a Feel-Good Waste of Money One of the public libraries I use regularly has a box where people can donate their old eyeglasses. Whenever I see it, I regret having nothing to contribute.
